Product Information

The easy to use Windows format makes this extremely user friendly. The Bullet Library includes all major bullet and ammunition companies and allows for the addition of new and custom bullets. This program is "OK". The RCBS ballistic program is much better. It is easier (though still quirky) to use and has more graphical data all on the same page. RCBS is specifically better for shooters who compete in events that require shots from varying ranges. If you use a tactical or a target style scope to set the proper amount of "clicks" (MOA) for the distance being shot, you will find the RCBS program much more useful.And yes, the Sierra program requires the CD to be in the drive to use. This is an unnecessary pain in the neck.However, if you upgrade to the Sierra Infinity Suite, the loading data is excellent. But, so is the hard bound manual. It is hard to beat Sierra's bullets. Be safe....

Program returns to default metro values (i.e. sea level, 59F etc.)not values specified by user if you need a trajectory table with sight adjustment figures instead of drop and wind drift and you're not at sea level.

It works but why not, Sierra has probably made millions of match bullets that have been fired over 200, 300, 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yds. It works because of carefully designed approximations (velocity boundaries) using what are basically 1918 methods (use of single drag model G1)Possibly, one of these days computer geeks such as myself can play around a new version using Doppler radar measurements looking at VLD bulletsCan you imagine how bullets with BC's like .350 would sell compared to bullets with BC's like .650 even if the ones with lower BC's shot as flat as the higher BC's.

A year ago, I would have given this software the highest rating. That was when I was using an old computer running Windows 98. The program worked excellent. This year, I upgraded my computer to one running Windows Vista. I can install the program on the new computer, but it (Sierra Infinity 5) stops working. I have sent in error reports, and still no solution. I checked with Sierra's web site. The web site acknowledges that there are problems with Infinity 5 and Vista. They offer a list of what other customers have done to get the program to work,but no definite fix. I am dissatisfied with Sierra's service of this product. They should be working to find a solution.

I am a gun nut, not a ...

I am a gun nut, not a computer nut. However I have found it very valuable to be able to figure your down range ballistics. This adds much to our hobby. It only works if you reload your own ammunition and have access to a chronograph. If you do, then this is almost a "must have" item. I only wish that it would figure your recoil value. It will let you look at its library to pick out a bullet maker and the bullet itself. Many programs don't do that and I question their accuracy. Anyway, once you enter your information it will give your downrange ballistics taking into consideration, the altitude, wind and of course the bullet. You can print out the information in several forms, but the most valuable is about 1/2" tall and however long you need. This print-out can be taped to the side of your rifle and with the help of a rangefinder, you will know where to hold the rifle to hit your target. The wind is a variable and you must guess, unless you have a wind gauge or flags.

I suppose that this program does what it says. However, what is omitted from it's description is that this program has been crippled by requiring that you always have the cd in the disk drive - a very clumsy form of copy protection.I will be replacing mine.

The output is very reliable but the software is very dated and a little quirky to navigate. It looks and acts like it's a DOS application running in a Window. Sierra is overdue to update a good base product.

Awesome program if ...

Awesome program if anybody is having problems running with Vista just right click on the short cut on the desktop go to properties-compatibility then select windows 98/ME and then hit -apply- you should be good to go!
