This tool is designed to remove, install and adjust front and rear dovetail sights. This tool can be used by hand, or it can be in a bench vise for sights that are extra tight. Tool comes with two sight tips, 1/4" diameter round steel, 1/4" square steel. The square is recommended for Kimber and other shallow dovetail sights. On slides with side mounted safeties or decocking levers, it may be necessary to use the spacer to ensure a flat surface for the tool, or the lever may need to be removed from the handgun -- do not tighten the tool jaw against the safety or decocking lever. The tool is designed to work on semi-automatic handguns only.

From the time I began ...

From the time I began takedown, front sight replacement on my Kimber Tactical Pro II took less than 15 minutes to complete including reassembly. When other sight pushers for specific firearms cost $150 to $250 or more this is just about stupid cheap for a universal installer. It is now the best firearm tool in my collection. Take your time with tool adjustment and you won't scratch anything, I think the other user simply set his slide too low in the installer rather than keeping the square edge of the pushing surface flush with the dovetail cut. Take your time and you will be impressed as well!

I purchased this for the ...

I purchased this for the XD 40 service. Please note, the stock sights for this pistol, for some reason, is extremely stubborn to take off - on both ends! I'm guessing factory tolerances are extremely tight! The clamp pieces are made of a smooth polymer which does flex under the clamp pressure. I did purchase the hold down clamp, as well as the end stop pieces and used it. Gave up, using this to take sights off, but when putting it on the aftermarket sights, this tool definitely helps and are much easier with them. The metal adapters barely fits onto the sights because of the small profile - so maybe B& J need to make some additional other various shapes for different mfr. If you stared down either end of the top slide, you'll notice it has symmetrical notches in the shape almost like a digital character "A" Because both sides of the slide is not completely flat (like a Glock), you'll have tendency to have the steel slide "twist" as you put pressure on one side to remove the sight - while the entire piece is clamped down with all the combined tools, I'm guessing this is from the clamping pieces only touching the bottom-half of the slide and not the whole -- leaving a gap on both ends. If B&J were to make a custom XD shell that "firmly holds" the entire shape, then the twisting action wouldn't happen. The separately ordered hold-down clamp only assist somewhat in holding down the slide. Also, the hold down clamp, if placed closer to the "bridge" has problems with the screws and turn-knobs touching each other, so had to switch out some screws to get this to work. In the end, just punched the sights out with a hammer and punch set.

Disaster

I purchased this tool to adjust the rear sights on my Kimber 1911. It was a disaster as the little pusher blocks supplied with the tool rolled sideways and marred the finish on the sight and gouged the gun's surface near the dovetail. Now my cherished Kimber has a very deep gouge and the sight is dinged up and look like heck. Why some gun makers feel the need to install their sights so tight that you need a 20 ton press to adjust or remove them is beyond me. Until gunmakers wise-up, buy yourself a hydraulic press or take your pistol to a gunsmith that has one. Do not use this tool!

The tool mars the sight. For the price, it should come with styrene material to use as shims to keep slide from twisting, but credit cards work for this. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Nothing I tried budged the rear sight on my CZ 75B pistol. The rear sight seemed to have been welded on. I ordered B & J's tool and with some helpful advice from them over the phone I quickly had my CZ 75B on target. The only thing I would add to this kit is a small C-clamp to keep the pistol slide from rising in the tool.

I used this to adjust the sights on my new M&P 45 compact. The loads I have were hitting left several inches. I tried adjusting with a plastic (nylon?) rod and hammer as I have done on other guns, but that baby was in there like it was glued. Even securely anchored it would take a big whack and laugh at me. When I got the tool I didn't buy the extra clamp. Turns out I didn't need it. By being very slow and careful, I kept the pusher aligned with the side of the sight and gradually increased pressure on the sight. Increase pressure gradually like you are threading some pipe, if you've ever done that. The sight finally started moving. Great tool. The picture above doesn't do it service as it looks smallish. It's a massive tool.

I searched around for an affordable hand tool that might have some luck removing the sights from my XD9 and gave this one a shot after reading the reviews (along with the add on clamp). It took some careful set up to get everything aligned right and rigid but it did the job! No damage or scratches on anything either. My Glock 21 rear sight was a breeze too with it. Great tool!!

Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't. The pusher screw got bent on mine, which makes it very difficult to use accurately. It does not hold the slides securely, they almost always flex - and the steel pusher tips mar the heck out of sights. I have much better luck with Delrin or brass punches and a hammer.

I received this tool today and I am thrilled with the results. I have adjusted the front and rear sights of my SIG Sauer P220 Elite and installed new Trijicons on my Gen 3 Glock 19. The Trijicons were a bit of a tight fit on my G19 and, as with other folks, I ended up chewing up the finish of the sight a little. Nothing a tiny dab of flat black Testors paint won't fix, but annoying none-the-less. For my P220 I decided to use a small piece of a cloth gun cleaning swatch to pad the pusher, which seems to work ok. The rear dovetail sights on the P220 were a snap, the fronts not so much. The smallest square pusher just barely fit and required the exact alignment of the pusher with the dovetail. To summarize: This tool works as advertised and seems rock solid. Worth every penny, especially for those with more than one handgun.

I have used this to adjust and change sights on an XD and a Smith and Wesson M&P. Easy to use and makes smooth adjustments. Works better if used in a vise.
