I bought the RCBS DeLuxe 510.5 Grain Scale Check-Weight Set (RCBS Part No. 98992) to be used with both my RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 Powder Scale (the 110-VAC Model) and also my RCBS Model 1010 Reloading Scale to supplement the basic weights supplied as original equipment. I am limited to using the Model 1010 mechanical beam-balance when loading black powder, and the beam is graduated in increments of 10 grains and also has the threaded fine-adjustment counterbalanceweight in 1/10th-grain intervals. The 510.5 set comes with a small pair of "tweezer" tongs for handling the small fractional-grain wire weights and also the set of machined precision weights of 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 grains. It permits accurate checking of the balance scale at a number of points on the range and gives a higher degree of confidence in weighing out both powder and also individual bullets, although the Chargemaster 1500 electronic scale is really better suited to that function. An excellent product from a quality supplier!

Set does the job but ...

Set does the job but cheap plastic box and foam won't last for long. Narrow necks on weights makes the forceps useless. You need to gouge the weight out of the foam, and it will likely run away. Wire weights can't show value. There are better designs out there.

I consider a set of check weights to be an essential reloading tool. Unless you check your scale with a known weight, you wont know for sure if the reading on the scale is the actual weight of whatever is being measured. Also, if a scale is right on at say 10.0 grains, there is no automatic guarantee it will be right on at 240 grains without using check weights that match the weights you want to measure. The RCBS Deluxe Scale Check Weights contain enough different weight sizes to cover any weight between 0.5 and 510.5 grains in 0.5-grain increments. So, it provides the versatility to check the weights of a wide range of powder charges, bullets, and cases. Its important to keep the weights clean because skin oils will accumulate from multiple handlings, which picks up dust and dirt. The skin oil and crud it attracts will eventually add enough weight to be detected by a sensitive scale. I minimize touching the weights with my bare fingers by using the forceps per the instructions or wearing thin latex or cotton gloves. Keep the weights clean and take care to never drop them on a hard surface, and they will provide you with an excellent means to check the accuracy of any scale.

Every one of the weights matched my digital scale 100% dead on. Any combination I tried of these check weights was also 100% dead on. I was impressed with these check weights and my digital scale (RCBS 750).
