This magazine is standard with the new NRA Mini-14. It's absolutely dependable and extremely well made. I've used many aftermarket magazines for Mini-14's through the years and none will compare with the Ruger factory magazines. They're first class! The internal fit and the follower design facilitate perfect feeding, and loading is easier than most aftermarket magazines as well.

I bought three of the Ruger Mini-14 10 round magazines for my SS 195 series rifle. After loading up the magazines, none of the magazines would lock into the rifle. If the bolt is back, the magazines will lock in, but not if the bolt is closed. Removing one round will allow the magazine to be inserted properly with the bolt closed, 9 rounds. I tried everything to insert the magazines with 10 rounds with the bolt closed, but no amount of force would allow clip lockup. I live in magazine deprived New York State where 10 rounds magazines are the maximum by law. Buying the higher priced Ruger magazines was coupled with the expectation that I could load 10 rounds for sure when needed.I have preban no-name 40 round magazines that work and lock up fine with the bolt closed. What I learned is that even with the Ruger reputation for quality, one needs to test their magazines before depending on them.

Get This Mag ASAP! they fit snug, are very reliable, and don't protrude far either. Stick with these 20s. 30s have feeding problems over time due to the spring losing tension. but the spring in this is tighter and last better over time.

I have a Mini-14 Tactical model 5847 which comes with one 20 round magazine and I have purchased four more. All have performed without problems.

From an aesthetics standpoint, I think the 20 round magazine is the "goldilocks" size - not too big, not too small.
