Installed it on a Para ...

Installed it on a Para USA 1911 G.I. Expert. I wanted to replace the plastic mainspring housing and I went with this one to get rid of the small gap there was with the wilson combat drop in beavertail grip safety. It took extensive fitting on the width of the side rails. I removed at least half on each side and then touched it up with perma blue. It looks and feels great but will not drop in to the gi expert not even close.

I like it. The serrations ...

I like it. The serrations are very aggressive and that is what I was looking for. For this housing to fit in my "Loaded" Springfield I had to remove a lot of material from the width of the housing. But I think as long as you go slow and repeatedly check and re-check for fit, anybody can "gunsmith" this part so it fits perfectly. I would have rather had a perfect drop-in part, but fitting parts is pretty normal for 1911's.

This housing did what I ...

This housing did what I wanted it for and that was to replace the "plastic" housing that Colts is putting on their 1911 style pistols. However, it appears to be a MIM part and when they say it is slightly oversize to provide a "gap free" fit, they aren't kidding. For one reason or another (mostly to replace plastic) I have replaced the mainspring housing on five 1911 style pistols and four out of the five appeared to be machined. It is getting harder to find the exact housings that I want and even harder to find ones that are machined.
