Loaded with 77.5 grains ...

Loaded with 77.5 grains 4831 (Max load tried was 82.5 grains and 85 grains and though they group almost as well they definitely kick more, heat the barrel more rapidly and at 77.5 grains the 175 grain Horn bullet and these 162s hit only 1/2" left and 1/2" low of each other, so almost exactly the same spot for hunting purposes), and shot from a Remington model 700 Stainless 7MM Ultra Mag, it will shoot 3/8" groups at 100 yards and .8" groups at 200 yards. Due to the high powder loads the barrel heats rapidly so all groups are three shots. The Ultra Mag is definitely not a target gun.This is the first year I used this gun and the first time I used this particular bullet. I have always been a fan of the Hornady 175 grain SP Interlock as an all round bullet for any type of 7MM Mag.Shot a Whitetail at 170 yards through medium heavy willow and poplar. Even though I hit lower and further back than I wanted, the deer went down where it stood. I also shot a moose at 375 yards in an open dry swamp. The rule with moose is you keep shooting until they drop. Put three rounds into the moose, as it turned out on cleaning all three would have been fatal as 2 were perfectly placed behind the shoulder. The third shot, was also behind the shoulder but a little higher than the first two and it passed just under the spine. The kinetic shock zone gelled the spinal column and dropped the bull. I recovered one bullet that had hit a near and far side rib and stopped on the offside hide. Retained weight 65%. The other two passed through this medium sized bull. My only concern would be this bullet may be a little fragile if used on a large animal that was closer and the strike velocities therefore much higher. To date however, great accuracy and great performance. I will shoot it again next year.

I am a Hornady man through and through. But I have had mixed results with this bullet. I am shooting this out of an Rem M700, 7mm Rem Mag. At the range, this is an accurate round. 66 gr of H4831 going 3025 fps is accurate (Holes touching). I have had the brass and lead go their separate ways several times. I don't know if I would trust these on Elk. I have killed plenty of Whitetail with one shot. Some bullets pass right through, but I usually find the brass only. Deadly deer bullet but breaks up at higher velocities. I hope this helps! Be safe and good shooting.

Bullet Failure

My partner used this bullet on caribou in August and again on pronghorn in October this year. On a broadside shot at a measured 113yds at the caribou, the bullet penetrated well but the core and jacket separated; I found the jacket under the skin on the offside of the animal.
On the pronghorn, shot at the base of the neck (a frontal shot)at a measured 220yds, the bullet appeared to have exploded on impact, creating a 3" diameter shallow surface wound. Some portion of the bullet did penetrate to exit behind the right shoulder, but the buck traveled over 200yds and remained alive for perhaps 10 minutes after having been hit. The large entrance wound ruined the cape for mounting.
Both these animals were shot with a 21" barrelled 7x57 Mauser at an estimated muzzle velocity of 2,350fps (the bullet loaded over 42gr of W760), certainly not excessive velocity. These two incidents lead me to conclude this bullet is not suitable for big game, and I would strongly discourage hunters from using it as there are many superior bullet options available.

I have mixed feelings on ...

I have mixed feelings on these. I shot a Red Stag in Latvia last year with a this bullet in front of a mild load (55gr) 0f IMR-4350, from my 7mm Rem Mag. Velocity apprx 2800fps.The bull was shot at approx 130-150 yards, broadside in the spine. It dropped on the spot. When I arrived I put in another one into the spine at the base of the skull.Both bullets were recovered in very poor condition. I think one weighed 90gr and the other 60gr. Both were expanded back way past the cannelure, almost to where the boatail starts. One had jacket core seperation. Obviously they did the job, but I was a bit disappointed with what I recovered. But keep in mind they did go through the spine of a large animal (approx 275lbs of boned out meat). I will try the Speer Deep Curl 160gr now.

Great performing ...

Great performing projectile. very accurate and deadly. with my 7mm Rem Mag I took a 322 lb pig this past weekend at 797 yds on our club and dropped him. he didn't flinch or take a step. hit him 1/2" in front of the shoulder as he was slightly q-towards me so I was able to retrieve the bullet just on the outside of his opposite ribs and had no separation just a perfect expansion. Highly recommend to anyone. I am currently reloading this bullet into 7mm-08 rem in 139gr. No doubt it will perform excellent on deer. My load for 7mm rem mag is 70.0 gr H1000 215 GMM Primer. MV 2966.

I have not yet used it on game, but have loaded it with 38gr. of R15 in my 7mm08. I can hit a Coca Cola can at 250 yards all day long with this bullet. It's only doing about 2600 fps, but it's accurate. I am using a Marlin XS7 with a Vortex Viper 2-7X35 scope. They ricochet a lot though.

Used this bullet in my Rem M700 7mm Rem Mag with 62 gr H4831. Sub 1 inch groups @200 yards and 3008 MV. Shot a 6x6 Bull Elk @230 yards, hit a little high on the shoulder, bullet plowed clear through, dropped the bull on the spot. I'll be using this bullet in my 7mm-08 and 7x57.

Loaded this for my almost new 7mm Mauser. Best bullet for this gun. Original 98 Mauser Brazil 1908 all original . H4350 W/CCI mag primers. Shooting open sights 100 yds and keepin' it tight .

Have loaded this bullet in 7 Rem Mag. for years for a group of nonreloading friends who hunt deer and elk in CO. More accurate than the complex premiums I have tried, holds together better than other conventionals, and most reasonably priced. Never had a failure or core separation, (they bring me back the spent bullets they can recover) taking 3-8 elk and mule deer a year. One shot kills when properly placed. MV about 2950.

I have been impressed with this bullet. In my 7x57 Mauser(.275 Rigby), I get consistant 1" groups at 100yds and sudden death on whitetails. They seldom take a another step. Been using Win 760 at 49.1 and get 2650 fps. Not bad for 110 year old technology!!
