I bought this extension cap to put on the end of the Nordic Components two round tube that I bought for my Remington 870. With an 18.5 inch barrel, the two round extension tube was quite a bit shorter than the barrel and I wanted something closer to a flush fit with the barrel. This extension cap comes much closer, falling just about a 1/8"-1/4" short of being a flush fit. Based on other earlier reviews, I was also hopeful that this slight addition in length might also add extra magazine capacity but using 2-3/4" shells, I did not have the same results and I was not able to load an extra round to the magazine. This may be dependent on how you trimmed the magazine spring during the installation of the initial extension tube.

I was skeptical on how adding 3/4" was enough to add another shell, but for some reason, it works! It's like magic! Fitting the +2 Nordic Components magazine extension was about 3/4" shorter than the barrel on the 870. With this end cap, the magazine tube and barrel are about equal. Essentially, with this end cap, your shotgun will be +3, but only in 2-3/4" shells. I don't think you will be able to fit an extra 3" shells.

This cap is a hidden gem ...

This cap is a hidden gem with Nordic extensions. What Nordic doesn't tell you is that the XL cap will generally make their extensions flush (or pretty darn near) with the end of the barrel. The regular +2, +3, and so on usually aren't flush, but this will pretty much get it there 90% of the time. Ready for the big secret? Adding this end cap will add 1 additional 2 3/4" shell into your magazine!! So lets say you buy a +2, +3, +4, so on and so forth magazine extension tube...if you add this end cap, it will add a round to each of those. My one 870 has an 18" barrel, I added the 2 round extension, I was upset because it was not flush so I bought this cap only to find out my gun was now a 7+1 gun instead of 6+1. The same went with my 20" 870 and the +3 tube...it was a bit short, I added this, bam...flush with an extra round. And lastly, it was the same exact result with my Benelli Supernova Tactical as well. Its worth EVERY penny if you buy a Nordic extension!!!!!!!
