Newest generation has A ...

Newest generation has A on bottom very clear whether small or large primer size. Mine came as second not the newest third. Lee sent me a replacement for this small unit I've had for 2 weeks no hassle. I gave it 3 stars just so people would read the review. Load master works great except for primer system hopefully this fixes that. Then we can have a beast.

Lee has listened to some ...

Lee has listened to some of his customers that probably reload without paying attention to what is going on. Lee the old primer system worked great. Yes if you do not pay attention while reloading you bend the little protrusion that pulls back the primer if no case is at the priming station. So Lee redesigned their slider without that feature. Now you end up with a slider that does not pull back the primer but leaves it sitting there only to go back and pick up another primer so you get a double primer feed. Thanks! Now you have discontinued the old style slider so if we need a replacement we only have the option to buy a replacement primer feeder at six times the cost of the old replacement slider. I personally love my Loadmaster press.

It doesn't seem to work ...

It doesn't seem to work very well out of the box. I was reloading 9mm and it would not place the primer into the pocket properly about 1/3 of the time. With a close inspection you will find that the priming pin is too far down into the well, which will cause it to roll when it is slid over to be inserted. However this is fixed by raising the priming pin to the level that the primer is on by putting tape, or what not have you, to space between the body and the leaver that actuates the pin. After doing this the only problems I have had is the occasional flipped primer, which is my fault.

Well I have both large ...

Well I have both large and small and am very happy with them both the only problem has been my fault in not retiming the primer slider after doing checks on load wieght causing a jam in the primerfeeder and slight damage to the slider. Once I figured out what I was doing I have had no more problems and have loaded thousands of cartridges without a problem... just a slight inconvienience when I find a flipped primer, but thats what a puller is for, right? In comparison to my old Dillon, it's just as reliable and costs much less ..

I think I've rated every ...

I think I've rated every other Lee product at least a four, and usually a five. Lee products are generally well designed, well built and inexpensive, making them very good values. That's less so with the primer feeder. There's nothing inherently wrong with plastic. It's inexpensive but that doesn't mean it won't work well. But the primer feeder is very fussy. It's almost impossible to reload and not have issues with the primer feeder and that's a shame because the rest of the LoadMaster press is very good and reliable. The primer feeder is the only real weak link. Lee insists on keeping this design because they believe a tray of primers is safer than a tube of primers as used by other companies on their progressive presses. It's too easy to have primers flip as they initially enter the chute when a new tray is loaded. It's too hard to remove the cases to check the primer feeder whenever there is a problem and the work flow is interrupted, so primers are double fed. I had one of those detonate. It's loud. Once there are primer problems, there is a cascade failure where stopping the operation causes more failures, bad ammo from short cycling, etc. Short stroking the press can result in the primer slider moving half way (very bad) and that's the type of problem that results in misfed primers and mangled primer sliders. As inexpensive as the LoadMaster is, buying extra primer sliders (less that $2 each) is still a good value. You may need to replace the trough too (less than $6) if it's a bad crash. The instructions have a list of four things to do to avoid primer problems. Obey these commandments! Lee recommends Winchester and CCI primers with other brands being relative degrees of unsafe. They prefer CCI primers. In addition to Lee's safety claims, CCI primers are also better because they have a shiny electroless nickel plating and the Winchester primers are dull brass. The nickel plating slides down the chute and feeds more easily than the brass Winches

Works great on my press. ...

Works great on my press. No problems with the small one, as I learned procedures [and problems] with the large one. That one was okay on a test load using a 45 case I made from a 45 case into 400 cor-bon by necking it down. Primer went in great, so then I switched to the factory cases I had bought, and the trouble began. There were crushed primers, backwards, sideways, embedded in the feeder cover etc. Lucky I didn't set one off. THEN I discovered that the factory cor-bon cases had SMALL primer holes. No mention of this in the limited info that was available. I didnt look closely, as they LOOKED LIKE 45 cases necked down to 40. I damaged a couple of sliders and made the top covers ugly, but got a damaged one to work until the parts came from Lee. Easy to change the parts in the feeders, and they are cheap. Lee will replace the parts for free if you send them in, but I just paid the dollar each to save postage.Can't say enough about how easy it is to fix these things when you do foul up and it will happen. One thing to remember with the load master is try not to get out of sequence. When you do, you have to be very careful getting going again. This is especially true with the primers. Whenever in doubt, press the primer lever and see if there is a primer on the pin, and remove it if there is.
