I purchased one of these to mount on my Rock River Coyote 5.56 carbine. I am very pleased with the performance of this scope. Because the reticle is on the first focal plane and illum. it performs like a red dot ( or green, it has both colors) at 1X. ( Go to the Weaver web site and take a look at the reticle its well thought out.) When you increase the magnification the reticle enlarges and it performs like a standard scope. The glass is Japanese and it is very clear optically with no distortion at the edges. I had a Millet DMS on this rifle that was adequate but this Weaver is far superior and well worth the extra money. I highly recommend it for you 3-gun guys and also you tactical guys. I am a patrol rifle instructor and I see a lot of scopes. You will not do better unless you spend over $1400 for the IOR Valdada 1.5 - 8 x 35.

Just received this yesterday and gave it a careful exam before mounting it to my AR. Build quality appears to be extremely high. I look through a lot of scopes since I work as a gunsmith, and this glass is as good as any I've seen. Very clear and bright, no fisheye at 1x, and almost no perceptible distortion at the periphery (I've seen scopes at more than twice the price that I can't say that about). Weaver's website gives a full page diagram of the thoughtfully designed CIRT reticle, but what they don't tell you is what you see at various zoom settings. At 1x you get a very fine (lit) crosshair in the center 3rd of the glass, bracketed by 3 heavier bars like a German #4. At 5x the heavy bars are all but zoomed out of the picture, and the CIRT reticle dominates the glass, the hash marks becoming much more useful. Light settings range is good, though a NV compatible setting would be icing on the cake. At 1x the fine crosshair is perfect for fast acquisition when brightly lit, while lower settings can allow for fairly precise low light shots at 5x. Given that all scopes represent some compromise, this one gives away very little, and nothing to any other in its class. Buy with confidence and you will be impressed, regardless of the brand you're accustomed to.

I love the scope. The guys at the range were impressed too. First focal plane optics are uncommon so when you zoom in the reticle changes size too. Pros: 9 merits;I shoot USPSA 3-Gun and love the 1X for the close quarters work while the 5X allows me to find the A Zone on the 300-yard targets. The other thing I really like is the reticle has three color modes; Black as a default (unlighted), red, and green. I like the fact that if the battery dies you still have the reticle. Youll know what I mean if you have ever have your battery die on your red dot during a match! Cons: 1 demerit;I would like to see a tactical knob on the zoom ring to make on the fly adjustments just a little bit easier and quicker. This scope is well worth the money.
