I purchased one of these ...

I purchased one of these recently on sale but after seeing and using it would have gladly paid Midway's regular price; maybe more. The quality of construction and materials are great. Some seem to think it should be thicker but for it to be so would take away from it's compact size and portability. I may get a sleeping bag foam pad from Wal-Mart for shooting on concrete for long periods but really don't need it. Besides, I don't go to the range to sleep and some of the thicker mats I've used are bulky, not easily carried and are more like thin mattresses. Particularly impressive is that Midway's logo is actually embroidered in the cover rather than some cheap iron on that soon start to peel, crack and generally look ugly. The mat is made in China and I would much prefer to see "made in USA" on the tag. Apparently, Midway has taken steps to ensure good quality control and it shows because I found no flaws. Thanks Midway for offering this quality accessory to the shooting public.

I didn't read far enough down in the reviews before ordering, or I would have found that the elbow and knee pads are not rubber but are some kind of textured plastic, which is very slippery, even though I have a shooting coat with rubber on the elbows. For me, this mat is unusable in prone positions, as anything other than a rock solid grip makes it impossible to shoot decent scores. My right elbow would not stay in place at all and I ended up folding the mat out of the way and putting my elbow in the dirt for a better hold. At 600yd prone I borrowed another shooter's mat as this one can't be used without some modifications. I got this mat on sale, but paid almost as much again to get it shipped to Alaska, so I can't return it. Like another reviewer said, I will have to replace the pads with rubber or do something else to make it grip more. For the price I guess I can't complain too much, but if you are serious about shooting good scores, you might want to pay more and buy a mat with better rubber grip surfaces.

Just what was needed. Half the price of other brands and does the job nicely. The stitching is fraying a bit but nothing some scissors wont fix if I get worried about it.

I'm an occasional shooter. No pro, no military experience, no competition shooting, etc. That being said, this mat has been great for me, my applications, and shooting prone. Comfortable enough, durable. I've taken it every time I have gone shooting since I got it (roughly 8 or 9 outings) and everything has been flawless. If anything were to happen to this mat I would buy another. Obviously it gets dirty quick, I'm not sure how easy it is to clean but thats no worry of mine. Great product!

This thing is a wonderful addition to a sighting range and a god send in a p.dog town. I used to sight in and test loads from an overbuilt bench and a high $ caldwell rest and bags, I am far more accurate with bipod and bags from prone. Only problem is size, kinda on the small (narrow and short) and wish I would have spent more on the bigger one. Still highly recomend.
