Product Information

This Buffer Technologies design includes a stainless steel guide rod, slide bushing and a recoil buffer. Buffer absorbs the shock from the action operating, rather than having metal to metal contact at the end of the bolt travel. The guide rod and slide bushing are made from a high carbon stainless steel which has a hardness of 48-52 Rockwell. Buffer will not be damaged by oils or solvents. Drop-in installation.

Notes:

Recoil buffer installs between bolt or bolt carrier and whatever the bolt or bolt carrier stops against when the bolt is fully retracted during firing (installation location varies with the specific firearm).

Buffer absorbs the shock from the action operating, rather than having metal to metal contact at the end of the bolt travel.

Service life of the buffer is 800 to 1,000 rounds.

Buffer will not be damaged by oils or solvents.

I purchased two of these for my Berette M9A1 and Sig P226. I like the general idea behind this item. However, it was difficult to install as the guide rod is much narrower than the OEM rod on both pistols, causing the factory spring to snake around and bind the guide rod during installation. After a very difficult and lengthy installation I got both put into my pistols then went to the range later. I did not notice any significant reduction in recoil or faster target reacquisition shooting double taps. I did notice, as another reviewer indicated, was that the 'rubber/polymer' insert/sleeve was showing signs of mushrooming after approximately 400 rounds each. Takedown upon cleaning was easily accomplished. I put back the OEM rods and went back to the range again but took the Buffer Tech rods to compare. At the range after firing 2 or so boxes each pistol I field stripped both to put in the Buffer Tech products. I could not install them after removing the OEM rods. I asked another shooter to lend a hand and together with our sweaty/oily hands we still could not do it. If you have strong hands with no injuries, arthritis, or other impairments you will like these items. For me, the inability to reassemble these pistols in a stressful or combat situations warrants a 'No Buy' recommendation. I gave three stars instead of one because I know from my experience with Buffer Technologies' other products in my 1911's that they have good ideas and workmanship. On a final note, once these Buffer Tech rods were installed they functioned flawlessly, my pistols did not jam, bind, or otherwise cause me consternation. I wanted them to work, but, I will be returning them.

Good so far as felt recoil but to install took two people. As I use for defense have to go with a steel guide rod. Good Idea but needs better install. I use both 92 and 96.

A finger breaker if you try to put in the Beretta 92 slide. The small hole of the buffer's bushing coupled with the strength of the Beretta 92 recoil spring make it almost impossible to fit the rod in the slide unless you have three hands and two pairs of eyes. I also tried to use it in the Beretta 96G and found that it is NOT fitting the gun: the slide won't cycle back enough to load a new round. Save your Money!!

I use this product on my 92 FS and 96A1 and would highly recommend it for both. I would especially recommend it to replace the 96A1 plastic guide rods, it works great although the bushing fits tightly into the slide receptical. I use an 18 Lb spring in my 92 with this buffer and experience no problems with standard or +P ammo. Target loads will occasionaly fail to lock the slide. I shoot 357 Sig and .40 in my 96A1 and experience no problems. This buffer and the A1's internal buffer protect the frame from the stronger impulse of the 357 round. I would not own a Beretta or Taurus 92 style pistol without running one of these.

Put this in my 92fs, I did feel slightly less recoil its not hammering metal on metal like the stock rod would do. Have fired over 600 rounds without any failure at all. It is cheap enough to be worth it. I would buy again.

Put it on my Berretta 92fs with a 16# spring. Cycled 150rds through it no issues. Noticeable shorter stroke. Very nice. No failures.

Noticed a little less ...

Noticed a little less recoil on my 92FS. The problem is the guide rod is too big so the recoil spring is curved. I experienced failure to eject, failure to feed, double feeds, and stove pipes on about every 4th or 5th round. Buying a spring set and going to test a lighter spring. Hopefully this fixes my problem!

Put 100 rounds through my Taurus PT99 and I did notice a lessening of recoil. Only problem the slide does not lock open on an empty magazine. Will try another 100 rounds and report back.

A previous reviewer stated that this part doesn't fit the 92FS. I have had one of these on my 92FS for more than a year and a thousand rounds and have had no problems at all. It exchanges to my 96G slide and works just as well on that one. Control and felt recoil are improved greatly over stock in either caliber from my experience. I would definitely buy another one if this one ever breaks. The only reason for four stars is that the guide rod seats into a bushing that must fit into the forward recess on the slide, and this can be tricky to get right with the spring under tension.

I put this on my 96G Elite II, but this model is uncommon, and it is closest to the brigadier so I would say it would fit that as well. It is a very nice accessory, if you switch loads around alot this will protect your frame from damage, from the heavier loads. It does make it feel smoother. The one disadvantege is one that I am not sure was the parts fault; because of the reduced distance the slide can go back from the buffer it makes less room for the slide release to pop up on the last shot. I experienced failure to lock on the last shot half of the time, however I am 90 percent sure that the only reason this happend was because I was resting my thumb on the slide release, so it would stop it from poping up. considering how much you can spend on similar products it is a great buy.
