Varmints and predators beware! Nosler's ballistic Tip Varmint Bullets are designed for violent expansion upon impact. The bullet is tipped with a polycarbonate tip which rapidly drives back forcing the thin jacket to expand and fragment. The heavy base prevents deformation during firing. Now offered in a lead-free design, this bullet is made with a metallic polymer tip and is safe to shoot in areas where shooting lead bullets is not allowed. This is not loaded ammunition.

Nosler makes note of the ...

Nosler makes note of the fact that these bullets are best in barrels with a 1 in 12" twist or faster. Having done much experimentation with lead free bullets, I have found that barrels need to be much faster for the heavier weight bullets, as they are correspondingly longer than lead core bullets. I use Savage Precision Target Actions and custom barrels, with twists specified for lead free bullets. This particular Nosler does well with a 1:9" twist (Pac-Nor polygonal) barrel in .223 Remington, but a faster twist would work better. I also use a 1:10" twist in the .22-250 but a 1:9" or faster would work with heavier bullets also. If you have a standard twist barrel stick with the 35 grain offering, or use a 26 grain Varmint Grenade from Barnes.

Couldn't get the 40g. ...

Couldn't get the 40g. Lead Free to spin properly. When you look at the target you won't see a whole but a yaw (Turning sideways). Tried different loads, powders, & OALs. Talked with Mike (from Nosler) and he says they know of this problem. His suggestion: try 35g. I tried some 35g. and got excellent results. Groupings of 0.113.

Here in Calif. we must ...

Here in Calif. we must shoot lead free ammo. I have tried a number of bullets without that explosive terminal result that I had with lead bullets. The Nosler BT (lead free) delivers explosive results at normal velocities. I will shoot nothing else in my .22 cal Centerfire arms.
