Similar in design and function to the standard Spire Point bullets, the Super Explosive Spire Points feature a thinner copper jacketed for even more rapid and devastating expansion on impact. Please note that these bullets cannot withstand velocities of greater than 3,500 fps. This is not loaded ammunition.

These shoot great out of my .223 using IMR 4320. Really wish I could find more; my .223 dislikes the V-max.

I wanted a good practice ...

I wanted a good practice and varmint load with minimal noise and no recoil for the grandkids' 22-250 Youth model Vanguard. I used the same reduced load of H4198 that gives me good luck in my heavy barrel Vanguard Varmint. First group was 0.45 inch. Approximately same velocity as a .223 Rem, and with the 1/14 twist, no premature vaporization. Will use this bullet for varmints and practice, then the Barnes 53gr. TSX for deer.

Excellent performance on Coyotes when used in 222 Rem. Muzzle velocity (3100 fps) entrance hole = bullet diameter, no exit. Very accurate- 1/2 MOA consistently.

What a surprise! Great performance out of my .223 Savage 112 1/9" @ 3200 fps. Deadly on P-Dogs & Rabbits out to 350 yds measured. Have not had a chance at Coyotes but suspect good results.

We loaded this up to 3800 fps in a 22-250. In my Savage with a 1 in 12" twist they vaporized at 30 yds. However in a Ruger #1, with a 1 in 14" twist they held together until hitting prairie dog fur, then exploded.Will try a lower velocity next time in my Savage.

By accident I tried these in a 223 Rem. Browning A-Bolt that didn't shoot very well. I had tried various Sierras and Nosler B-Tips. Much to my surprise these SX bullets were far more accurate in this gun. Groups went from 1.25" to 5/8". So they actually made a useable varmit rifle for me. Thanks Hornady!

I use this bullet in a savage model 340.Very Accurate out to 350 yards. Average group of 5 shots .45" at 150 Yards. This is my only bullet I use on whistle pigs.

I have been shooting these for years out of a Ruger .223. I moly the bullets and they are very accurate, 3/4" out of a 22" sporter barrel @ 100 yards. I seat the bullet on top of a charge of AA2015 and get velocities at 3400 fps. They are very explosive!

I just have to say it again.The little buggers are absolutely the best small varmint bullet out there. I've tried dozens of varmint rounds and I always seem to come back to these. In PA these are a groundhogs worst nightmare out to at least 400 yards out of a 22-250. They simply explode upon impact. There's no question if your shot was a hit or miss. On the bad side, If your one of these guys that eat these farm rodents this might not be the round for you. There's normally not much left after a well placed shot.

These are great little bullets!! Under 1/2 moa in heavy bbl varmint .223 (12" twist) at 3250 fs chronographed. No ricochets if you miss & very unpleasant for prarie dogs if you don't. Also stop coyotes in their tracks with an entrance hole only. For the few who bad-rapped this bullet......appears you were shooting 9 twist barrels. At 3000fs in a 12 twist barrel, that little bullet comes out spinning at 3000 Revolutions Per Second, thats 180,000 RPM!!! the same MV in a 9 twist barrel & its spinning close to 240,000 RPM. Hornady didn't design it to spin that fast (that's why the warning note in each box about limiting velocity, also limiting RPM) so naturally the excessive centrifugal force causes it to fly apart in mid air long before it reaches Mr."Sod Poodle". Don't blame the bullet if you shoot a fast twist or super velocity .22 (22-250,220 Swift etc) & switch to 50 v max's.
