Used it on an 870 ...

Used it on an 870 magazine tube after grinding out the detents for an extended mag tube. Did put a finish on after 2 or 3 coats. Not for large projects. Does not match factory bluing very well.

Like any bluing product, ...

Like any bluing product, this will only work on iron or steel and the metal needs to be as free of oil (or grease or whatever) as possible. If used correctly, it produces a fairly dark and dull finish that more-or-less blends into other bluing and seems to be reasonably durable. Use only for very small areas such as scratches; if used on areas of any significant size the difference between this "bluing" and the original finish becomes rather obvious. Don't expect miracles on high-polish blued surfaces. Color can be controlled somewhat by using a paper towel to wipe it off after a minute or two. Seems to work better if left to "dry" for an hour or so before reapplying oil.

Fairly good product. The ...

Fairly good product. The key seems to be to treat ONLY the area rubbed (scratches won't be shiny, but they will blacken), and to only use it for very small areas. Try hard not to color more that the area affected, because it'll alter the bluing around the circumference of the rub. A toothpick wetted by the applicator works OK.After treating, card the surface with 4 O steel wool, then re-treat again and again, until you get a general color match. Last, use some good water displacing oil, or even anti-seize grease. The finish will be better than when you started, but not perfect.

I tried the product to ...

I tried the product to cover scratches and it discolored the bluing under the scratches making a mess of the barrel. Very dissatisfied with the results.
