The SOG Aegis Tactical Folding Knife features a 3-1/2" AUS 8 stainless steel blade, GRN Polymer handle, and assisted opening blade. SOG Assisted Technology works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As one opens the blade the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade will open on its own. The end result propels the blade out once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action. Aegis is also equiped with SOG's trademarked bayonet reversible clip, built in safety with red/ready to go, checkered handles, with tacky rubber inserts.

The knife is an overall good design, but the SOG controls are pretty terrible for the knives with this opening system. Not for me.

good quality knife, sog ...

good quality knife, sog is a well known brand and makes quality knives. the fastest opening knife i've ever owned, even faster than kershaw. excelent for tactlical use, perfect for slashing and piercing. only two faults in my personal opinion is the lack of a steel liner and the blade finish is VERY weak and comes off almost instantly.

Unsafe to use! -- I did ...

Unsafe to use! -- I did not buy this item from Midway USA but have always come here for unbiased reviews on products and figured I needed to share my experience. I work in law enforcement and needed a medium-duty folder for work. I bought this knife today and liked it initially; positive opening with the assist, good grip, and I liked the blade design. Due to the nature of my work I need a knife which can be used to cut with a little roughly at times, and I wanted to make sure that the locking mechanism on this knife was adequate. To my horror I found that if I wrapped a cloth around the knife and tried to fold the blade while it was in its locked position, the locking mechanism lets go with not a whole lot of pressure and the blade will close on your hand. I figured I may have gotten a lemon but then poked around on net forums and found I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Yes, I know you have to be very skeptical about information from the net, but if this issue didn't exist I doubt I would have found as many posts about it as I did. I wouldn't even recommend this product to the lightest of users due to how easily the mechanism fails. Mine is being returned tomorrow.
