Media separator works ...

Media separator works well. It was not difficult to put together, be a little careful in sliding the side catches over the bucket sides. It seemed that if you pushed incorrectly and forcefully, you would break the plastic tabs. Either use the shields included or do not rotate the separator too quickly or you will throw media out onto the floor. I think it is pretty useful for the price.

Cheaply made, rube-Goldberg design, completely overpriced, something that you see at Harbor Freight, not what I would expect from Midway.

I've been using one of these for years and it works great! Those who rate it poorly need to slow down and stop trying to crank it so fast. All you need to do is rotate it slowly and give it an opportunity to roll the brass properly so the media can fall out. Yes, it's cheap plastic, but it's made to do a mundane task and it does it very well, no need for a high tech machine just to separate media from brass. Now, the FA tumbler that this came with, that tumbler was terrible and died years ago. I'll never own another one of those! But I'd definitely buy another separator.

Just spend the little bit of extra money and get the RCBS one, you'll be much happier, and it will actually work. It wanders around the bucket jamming on the sides. The pivot point constantly comes loose causing the thing to tip up and out of the bucket. The handle does not pivot, it binds on your hand and that causes it to lift out of the bucket.

Flings media all over the floor or bench even with the sides on it, and that's while turning slow. Turning is cumbersome because the plastic clips that hold it to the bucket try to slide around the bucket while you're spinning it.

Mine works well if you are smarter than it is. Rock it back and forth first, then spin it SLOWLY!! I don't even need the gaurds on mine. No, it isn't high tech, it doesn't need to be to do a fine job.

The only reason I gave 2 stars is because with my own modifications, I got it to work reasonably well...you have to hold down on separator as you rotate it! Plastic clamps to mount shaft holder is a joke! The reason I kept it and I didn't send it back was it wasn't worth the cost to return it! Only bad item I've bought from Midway!! Do your homework before buying a media separator!!!
