This product is so superior to the MEC crimp starter for 28 gauge shells, there is simply no comparison. You'll go from mangled to near factory perfect crimps. Don't reload without it!

The product is beautifully machined - 5 stars for being well made. I made several attempts to start crimps with the device - it didn't do a very good job - cases were compressed and the resulting crimp was substandard (ugly)- 1 star for performance. Average score is 3 star. One of the factors that contribute to the performance is that I am using a MEC "Short Kit" to reload 2-1/2" .410 bore rounds in a 3" MEC press. I intend to experiment some more to see if I can get the device to perform as advertised. There are some degrees of freedom lacking in the brass crimp starter that the MEC OEM part possesses. This would be a lifetime replacement part if it can be made to perform as advertised unlike the MEC OEM part which, unfortunately, wears out over time. Ballistics Products is a quality supplier and provides quality products. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume I am not doing something right. Still, the brass part is quite expensive at $30.00 compared to the OEM part priced at about $5.00.
