This brake has horizontal slots similar to the A2 style AR-15 muzzle brake. The brake slips over the front sight and is secured with a set screw.

This one is better than the John Masen Black Warrior Muzzle Brake. I stripped out the screw on that one because it was cheap and the allen wrench was too small. The screw on this one is of better quality, but the allen wrench that came with it was a tad to small, so I used my own to get it on nice and tight. I also put some Lock Tight on the screw and it has not fallen off as the John Masen Black Warrior Muzzle Brake did. Looks sweet and stays put, who can ask for more?

It is easy to install on a factory 10/22 barrel without taking the factory sights off (they even can be used after installation). The only reason why it did not get a better review is that the screw that holds the piece in place was defective. I had to replace it which was not a big problem but should not happen with a new product.Bottom line: Looks nice, easy install, minor problems.

Went on no problem,still holding tight after a few hundred rounds. A 10/22 doesn't really generate much in the way of "flash" but this is just a simple,cool and fun upgrade.

This Muzzle brake is much like the one i installed on a 10/22 20 years ago. It fit the end of the barrel perfectly, But the set screw leaves a little to be desired. when tightening the alan wrench slips inside the screw. That is the only beef. Other than that, it is an inexpensive add on that looks great.

This muzzle brake is a good snug fit, requiring no tool other than a mallet to install. The barrel looks like it came with this as original equipment. Many may believe this is only for looks. I would disagree on at least two counts: 1. It does add a little weight to the barrel, thus lessening muzzle flip; and 2. if this is only for looks, why did the designers of the M16 family include it in their design? It is also called a flash suppressor, and works well as such as the designers intended.

Okay I am getting used to ...

Okay I am getting used to it. It does look good on my 10/22. But I still rate it as a 4 because I am having the stripped screw problem. The threads seem okay but the allen wrench spins. It is still tight but I can't get it off without wrecking the screw, which I don't want to do until I find out the size. This doesn't seem to be just a J. Masen problem though. I hear the same complaint about other brands too. Same factory?

Looks great, went on with only light tapping of a rubber mallet. As with other reviews, the set screw was the only problem. I went straight to my Allen set to get the proper wrench to tighten the set screw only to strip the top off before I could get it snug. The treads are coarser than 8-40 screws so I did what would work best. I drilled out the existing hole with a #21 drill and tapped the hole with 10-32 tap, used a 10-32 plug screw, added a drop of loc-tite, problem with stripped Allen solved. Other than that, made my 10/22 in a Nordic components set-up look great and gave it that finishing touch.

To me it looks good, once installed. Fit is good. (Needs a handguard, etc. to go with it to compliment the look. That's next!) A big thing is that it will help protect the muzzle from damage. The overall quality is good. The finish could have used more care though. The circular tooling (or whatever) shows bad. It should have been sanded more before being blued. The bluing should have been better also. I would have given it the fifth star except for the finish.

I gave this 4 stars because of the cheesy set screw, and I'm not the first to mention that. I really like the looks of this on my rifle and it seems to blend in with the barrel ok. It might look a tiny bit rugged to some but to me it gives it that battle field military look. I doubt if it does anything useful, but hey, it looks sooo cool! So easy to install. Slip it on, tighten a set screw (wrench provided). The Allen wrench hole stripped the second time I had to tighten it. I got a better set screw and blue loc-tite at the hardware store. Seems to be holding.

This product is pretty poor. All of the edges are very sharp from machining. The set screw is a joke. It stripped before I could get any real tension to hold the break on. All in all this product was not very well made and did not work.
