Excellent product. I bought it to clean old shotgun parts. You can leave the parts unattended and they will not be harmed. After removal dry, brush and lightly oil. Leaves a clean smooth finish. I even tried it on rusty files and found it cleans them very well. It does not remove the steel, only the rust. I have left really rust parts in the solution for days with no problems.

excellent product did what it said it would do. first time ever I had no other bluing removal after using a product as others. all I had to do is just get to work on the metal then re-blue will buy more of this and keep it in stock. something every gunsmith should have and environmentally safe for disposal.

This product does work very well, although I found I had to soak items much longer than the recommended 15 minutes - usually overnight. It did a great job on a rusted plate for my turret press and a set of dies. And as advertised you can use the solution more than once.

Very easy to work with: no gloves, no fumes, no stains, completely "wife-acceptable" for indoors use. Because it is a weak chelating agent, it removes the iron out of iron oxide (rust), but doesn't attack the steel. I've left scrap rusty magazines in it for weeks to see if the claims were true. All the Evapo-Rust did was clean every bit of the rust off, no damage to the underlying steel. Very heavily rusted parts will benefit from wire brushing to knock thick rust off.

I bought a gallon to use on my guns and tools. It removes (washes away) rust easy. Just brush it on or dip rusted metal in it 10-15 minutes later rinse it of. If you want to keep rust from coming back just brush it on and let it dry. Great product. It won't eat metal either, so don't worry about acid damage. It contains no acid and it's bio-degradable.

Update to previous post.I had to C clamps completely covered with thick rust. After soaking them in Evapo Rust for 24 hours all rust was gone and C clamps look like new again.

I've used Evapo-Rust to clean some badly-rusted tools and it does exactly what is claimed for it. Thick encrustations of rust may require a bit of "elbow grease", a wire brush and a couple of passes through the solution to get down to base metal, but it always does a perfect job...only dissolves rust and doesn't touch base metal. It's very safe to use, also, unlike phosphoric or other acid-based rust removers.I've also used Evapo-rust to strip finishes off of old "project guns" prior to refinishing. I did this with a holster-rusted Star BM prior to resurfacing the metal and Parkerizing it. All of the old bluing and rust were completely removed, leaving a dull-gray, clean and passivated steel surface. After refinishing, this pistol now looks better than any factory finish I've seen.Surprisingly, Evapo-Rust not only removes all rust and oxide/phosphate finishes; it preserves the bare metal for a while. If you leave the piece that you've processed wet with Evapo-Rust and allow it to dry, it actually prevents rusting for several weeks, obviating the need to oil the stripped surface. To blue, I just run the stripped piece through a couple of boiling-water baths to remove the Evapo-Rust residue and then immediately process it in the bluing or Parkerizing.Don't throw Evapo-Rust out after you've used it once. It has a remarkably long range of useability. It will continue to work even when it is coffee-black from the dissolved rust it contains. I only throw it out when it has completely lost its ability to dissolve rust.

This is the best product I have ever used for removing rust from iron or steel. It does not "convert" rust it removes it completely. It does not need to be watched closely as it does not "eat" the parts only the rust. I have had great success cleaning rusty magazines prior to refinishing. Keep fingerprints off the parts and you can go from the Evapo-Rust to a water rinse to a parkerizeing tank with great results. Look no further for a great rust remover.

Restores rusty antique parts by removing the rust and imparting a light grey finish which can be polished. Especially useful in cleaning out rusted bores, where penetrating oil and wire brushes don't work.
