Technical Information

Airgun Pellets

Material: Lead

Styles: Airgun pellets are available in several styles, all based on the modern "diablo" design. "Diablo" pellets are larger on both ends, and have a thin area in the middle which seperates the head from the skirt, or base.

Wadcutter:

Wadcutter pellets are best suited for plinking and target shooting. Their flat heads make scoring on paper targets easy, and the wadcutter design is widely known for its stability and accuracy.

Pointed:

Pointed pellets are best suited for hunting small game and pest control. Their pointed heads provide maximum penetration.

Dome:

The rounded head of domed pellets decreases wind resistance and allows for maximum down range energy and accuracy. Domed pellets are good for long range (50 meters) target shooting and hunting, and work best in magnum powered air rifles.

Hollow Point:

The hollow point is designed for maximum expnsion at short ranges and low velocities. It combines the stability of the wadcutter design with the increased down range energy of the dome design.

Cylindrical:

The cyndrical pellet is slightly pointed at the tip, tapers in towards the middle, and flares at the base. It is good for hunting and pest control. The cylindrical design makes it one of the most hard hitting pellets available

I'm pretty new to air ...

I'm pretty new to air guns. Getting started with a Ruger Air Hawk. I was suprised at the accuracy differences from various pellets. This one is the best in my rifle. 1 inch groups at 40 yards. One shot kills on medium sized birds like starlings. They turn a large mouse into a small mess. My favorite pellet!

These are beasts! All but ...

These are beasts! All but 2 of the 10 or so things I've killed were dead instantly. I will bet that any airgun over 600 fps with make these expand out of my 685 fps airgun, virtualy everything but air makes these expand. Turns to about .22 when it expand and looks like a big pointed pellet. I knocked a cowbirds beak right off its head with these and on the same day killed four other cowbirds in an hour! Last week I killed a cow bird and grackel which is a large bird. Both were one shot kills and I didn't have to use my knife either. Makes a loud thwack when it hits an animal.

These pellets are decent. ...

These pellets are decent. Good for backyard plinking. One problem I seem to encounter too frequently is mold lines on the sides of the pellets. Significant enough mold lines will give you a flier. I have not used this pellet for hunting yet so I cannot comment on that. Shots into a gallon jug of water revealed no obvious expansion at all. At 15 yards the pellet did not exit either. The good part about the design of the pellet is the strength it will hit with. When hunting the point will start a wound channel and the rim of the hollow point will create a huge impact literally throwing your target to the ground. Overall, this is a good plinking and hunting pellet, giving decent accuracy if the bad pellets are sorted out. Quality control needs to be stepped up on this product. It is also very dirty. Your fingers will be literally coated in lead dust if you do not wash them periodically.
