There seems to be a design flaw with this unit in that the primer rods are not adequately guided in the unit other than the plastic shell-holder bushing. If you do not have the press handle all the way down when placing the rods they fall through and it requires disassembly to retrieve them. This should have told me right away that there was an issue. The least bit of variance in the strips or operation will jam the unit as the rods go out of alignment along the strip travel. The supplied plastic shell holder bushings are also very poor and contribute to the problem. I am not sure how the unit actually works at all when it does function given the design. The unit is simply too finicky to deal with. This is going back.

Have owned this product ...

Have owned this product for about a year with perfect results. Initial concern about the APS system in general has been quelled by nearly 10,000 handgun rounds through an RCBS Pro 2000. The few times it jammed on the Pro were due to my failure to keep the mechanism clean and dry. Have a Rock Chucker Supreme to load bottleneck cartridges, as for these I weigh every charge. Needed a fast, easy way to prime right at the workbench. Do not have room for a separate bench tool, and squeezing a hand priming tool hundreds of times does not appeal to me. The cases are tumbled twice and the primer pockets are brushed clean before any loading, so the unit stays in out-of-the-box new condition. The main body threads into the press where the dies normally fit. A standard shell holder snaps into place atop of that. A large or small punch as required drops into position through the shell holder. Insert an APS strip and you are ready. Have loaded about 700 rifle rounds without any hint of trouble. Best results will come if you take plenty of time to read the Setup instructions and go slowly to understand the process for the first few usages. After that, you can have 20 cases primed with ease in the same time that it takes to fill a conventional tube with primers from a tray. With each cycle, the priming tool makes unique sounds and has a definite cadence. You can feel in the press handle when things are right and when they are not. When done priming cases and a partially used APS strip remains, to keep from damaging the plastic gears, remember that the tool has an insertion side and an emerging side. It's a one-way process. Grasp the emerging (empty) part of the APS strip and pull it the rest of the way through. It will sound like a large zipper. If I only had a single-stage press for all loading, I would find a way to use the bench-mounted version, because then each case only has to be lifted a few inches off the bench vs. to the top of the press. That's the only drawback, if any.

I have primed by several ...

I have primed by several different methods and I like this one best by far. The only problem at first was it would not seat below flush. I called service and they sent longer priming rods. This system works faster and better than any other I have used.

Great design, but some ...

Great design, but some problems in execution. I bought the press-mounted and bench units; the priming plugs varied in length from 1.265" to 1.272" causing problems seating primers properly. Luckily, one small and one large priming rod were both 1.269". I set up both units for that length and can seat primers properly. I also had a bad batch of APS strips for small pistol that had holes too small for the small primer plug; the plug would get stuck in the strip jamming the whole system- both the press and bench units. If you load your own strips, be sure to push the plug through each hole of the strip the first time you use it to make sure it won't get stuck. If you can twirl the strip like a propeller around the plug, then it will be fine. If not, get out an X-Acto knife or a chamfering tool and slightly enlarge that hole.
