Best bullet for deer in my 6.5x55

These are the best bullets I've loaded in my 6.5x55, they are super accurate and drop whitetails like there's no tomorrow. Last buck I shot with them flopped over backwards with a shot that was a bit high in the chest cavity. Most deer go no further than 20 yards if hit well.

Just brought my Tikka T3 6.5x55 and Browning A-Bolt 7mm-08 to the range trying to work up the most accurate load possable for each. Both of them liked the 140gr Game Kings the best, the 6.5x55 by a small margin (it shoots everythig pretty tight) and the 7mm-08 by a large margin (only bullet it liked). Funny because my 30-06 likes them too in 165gr, this is just a darn accurate bullet across the board, the best I have ever used in my five rifles. While I have not used my smaller caliber SGKs on deer yet my 30-06 with 165s is devestating, and I am certain these will be as well.

Best bullet Ive ever used, Ive taken 18 whitetails and all but 1 have dropped dead in their tracks. Exit holes are massive and reloaded bullets H4831 produce less than .25 groups @100yds in my Remington 260.

Worked up a load with these bullets, 11/16th of an inch 3-shot group at 200yds using H4350 in .260 Rem. Why buy match bullets? I used that load to shoot a tactical rifle match, out to 550 yds & was very pleased. Would like to buy more, but everyone is out of stock right now!

Top accuracy. Shoots 1 inch groups at 200 yards from a Savage model 111 in 6.5-284; hits hard and very consistent grouping. Most accurate bullet at the lowest price in 140 grn range.

I have shot these out of a m38 6.5x55 at 2700 fps. They are a fast expanding bullet that makes them effective on smaller game like wallabies... at 300yd a 3" exit hole on shoulder. And also on deer they are great. The front half of the bullet blows up and separation of core and jacket is not uncommon, doing a lot of damage. Penetration is a little below average for this weight of bullet in 6.5mm, but 6.5mm is renowned for good penetration in general. If I wanted to shoot big tough game and wanted dependable deep penetration I would choose a different bullet. This is a great all around bullet for rabbits to red deer. I wouldn't shoot them out of a 3000fps rifle on elk or moose though.

In 1975 I was given a Pre'64 M70 Win 264 Mag with 26" barrel. I settled on the 140 gr Sierra SPBT because of the great groups at magnum velocities. Hunted West and Central Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. Have taken over 40 mule, whitetail deer and antelope, all one shot kills. Have taken deer close as 20 yds, but mostly long range, open country shots. Best shot was 850 yds down a canyon on a mule deer. The bullet went through both shoulders, getting caught by the skin on the off side. The bullet still had a majority of its weight and excellent expansion. I've experienced incredible and consistent performance by this bullet under all conditions. Getting low on loads, its time to buy another box Sierras.

Have shot these at the range for years, but just shot my first deer with it. Out of a Model 96 Swedish Mauser with scout scope it is very accurate. Lightning bolt kill on nice buck at 250+ yards, but found the bullet in the deer, jacket separated from core completely. Was wondering if this was a rare case or if others had this happen.

An excellent long range ...

An excellent long range bullet despite not having a plastic tip or hollow point match type. Shooting up to 700-800 yds shows that these bullets only drop 6 inches or so more than the 140 SiMK. A moderately high S.D. with a jacket and core designed for hunting enables these bullets to go through deer and put them down. My longest shot at a rock chuck at just under 800 yd was made with the 140 Si GK (1-9 twist works with this and the 140 SiMK but not with the 142 SiMK).

This was the first bullet I tried in a 6.5-06 rifle I built on an Interarms Mark X action with an Adams and Bennett 26" barrel, because of the reviews it received here. Using a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 BDC my first groups with IMR 4831 and 25-06 Winchester brass were .368" at 100 yards. Without much trouble, I was able to hold 1 moa out to 500 using a rest in field positions. I used it on a trophy mule deer hunt in 2009 and took a deer at 20 yards with a broad side shot that hit both lungs. The buck dropped in its tracks. The bullet exited and did extensive damage to the lungs. I will also be using it in a 260 Remington and expecting the same spectacular performance. Excellent product.
