On my 2008 Marlin 336A, ...

On my 2008 Marlin 336A, this was a drop-in fit. It installed in minutes without modification and I allowed it to set overnight to ensure the loctite did its part. The rail is very solid and level. I mounted a Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm Scout (411427) on it with Leupold Low quick release rings (463702). I have the Williams FP-336 Receiver Peep Sight (799753) installed for backup. All parts work well together and do not interfere with one another.

Slick mount for a scout ...

Slick mount for a scout rifle. I had a tiny bit of problems with the front mounting screw but Midway made it right quickly. With a low mounted pistol scope this is a neat outfit, fast with great back up sights once I put a Williams WGRS on the rear and the XS front blade.

"Easy drop-in ...

"Easy drop-in intallation..." Not quite - I installed XS Lever Scout mount on my Marlin 336XLR with excellent results but it required minor hand tooling and lot of patience. 1. Dovetail mount required slight sanding & buffing to fit dovetail slot; I also had to carefully and slightly ream the hole in front of rail to fit the bushing without force. I attribute this to fit between rifle barrel and receiver. (Dremmel Tool is perfect for this machining). I mounted Leupold Scout Scope but may later try "red dot sights." I recommend - with reservations.

I was a little bothered ...

I was a little bothered at the outcome of this system, I too had to make the hole a little larger. But when I removed the rear sight to add the new piece it was way oversized. I had to file the bottom and also the side to get a start fit. After I installed the rail I had to push down the front of the rail just to get the cap screw on. When complete and looking at it the rail had a bow to it. After placing my rigs on it, and adding my scope for a look, the scope only contacted the inner places of the rings. I used my scope tool to check for alignment and it was way off. I was not about to mount a scope on it, so I pulled it off. Maybe it was my 336 since it was made in the early 80's. I will hang on to it and see it is works on someones else's.

Very well built product ...

Very well built product with great service. Installation on Marlin 336C took a little more work than expected - need to open up the hole in the mount over the original rear sight - but it wasn't difficult. Highly recommend.
