I stopped a grizzly at very close range, after my friend's 300 Win Mag failed to do so. It took three shots, the first shot spun the bear around and the second put it down and the last was in the spine above the tail.

I used this bullet on a spring Quebec black bear hunt in a 358 Winchester with max load of Varget. 60 yards and slight quartering away, the bullet went from just behind the left shoulder then perfectly into the tee of the right shoulder/leg bone. The 246lb spring weight bear did not take one step and there was an exit hole a little over an inch. BUT the jacket and core separated when the bullet hit the right shoulder. The jacket was recovered by the bone and no lead was found. This is asking a lot out of a bullet of this design but with that being written the bullets shoots very well in my rifle. My $0.02.

Best performing bullet ...

Best performing bullet out of my 35 Whelen. Good 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Tried every bullet from 200 grs to 250 grs from every manufacturer on the market. This is the only bullet I am going to buy for this gun.

I use this bullet in my Rem 673 350 Mag. Loaded to 2.850 I have no feeding problems and using RL-15 groups under 1" are possible. I have yet to use on game, but will later this year. With the cost of bullets constantly rising it's good to find a load using a more traditional style bullet. That being said my rifle also shoots the 250gr Oryx and 225 TBBC just as well.

This Hornady # 3525 is a ...

This Hornady # 3525 is a great bullet; I believe that the 250 grain bullet was made for the 35 Whelen and gives me confidence in the thick hard woods and swamps caring nothing for limbs and tree branches, to down your Deer but is even better suited for Bear, elk, moose and any other North American big game IMO. After Remington discontinued their 250Rn and was not impressed with the 250 spitzers or 200 grain loads I put the rifle away although the very expensive Fed premium 225 Grain Bear Claw are tac drivers in this rifle. This 700 classic shoots these #3525s in 1.0 groups @ 100 yards with RL-15 but this is only my first reloads after retiring this gun for the last 7 years. This season I dropped a doe at 80 yards like it was hit with a Mack truck. Welcome back 35 Whelen; meet my new friend #3525!

Use this bullet in a 673 ...

Use this bullet in a 673 guide gun pushed to 2400fps. The cases must be trimmed to minimum length, and the bullet seated to the base of the ogive for the bullet to fit into the magazine (OAL 2.800), but it fits. Consistent 1.25"-1.5" 3-shot groups @ 100yds. Boost the terminal performance of the 350 Rem Mag into the "Whelen Range" with this bullet. Although it stops them, it knocks a hole straight through thin skinned game (deer), anchors anything bigger and/or tougher.

I've used this bullet ...

I've used this bullet over the years in a 35-348 and several 35 Whelen rifles. One with a 1 in 14 twist, two with a 1 in 16 twist and two I never checked. All were quite accurate with this bullet. They work well on whitetail deer and show no signs on breaking up at close range. I don't drive them over 2450 fps at the muzzle and lost very little meat. The nose is covered more with the jacket and this helps hold up better when hitting small diameter brush than the lead core spitzer. But that's no matter with a slower moving bullet with a thicker jacket. I have never recovered any from game.

I load this bullet in a ...

I load this bullet in a Winchester 1895, .35 WCF with Bertram brass (annealed it before loading it), Federal 210 primers, and Varget powder. Cartridge OAL is 3.180" and a moderate crimp is applied in the cannelure. This cartridge feeds perfectly in my rifle. Five-shot groups at 100 yards from a benchrest are consistently at 1", occasionally slightly smaller, with open iron sights. This is the most accurate bullet of two brands in three bullet weights (200 gr., 220 gr. and 250 gr.) that I've used in my rifle. The other bullets' groups ranged between 1 3/4" to 3 1/2" (...200 grain bullets have too long a jump to get to the rifling to retain acceptable accuracy). Two deer were shot with this Hornady 250 grain RN bullet in Nov '07. The bullet passed completely through on each deer with large exit holes assuring quick kills.
