I picked up one of these pads at the shot show in 2003 and installed it on a 22-250 varmint gun. It works very well to tame the recoil. It is rather soft and has air filled compression chambers that work well, It is however very soft and therefore a bit difficult to make a nice finish after grinding as the material tears a bit when sanding. I tried all the tricks with lemon oil and fresh wet 220 sandpaper but still could not get a good finish. However I believe that the absobtion part works as well or better than the Decelerator I have on another stock.

I installed this recoil ...

I installed this recoil pad on a Ruger Red Label O/U 12 gauge. Likes: The effects of recoil were significantly reduced. Installation is easy. Before I installed this pad, I couldn't shoot 50 rounds without my shoulder being a mosaic of black, blue and purple. Now, I can easily shoot much more. Dislikes: Even using the manufacturer's recommendations for grinding (i.e., WD 40 on 220 grit paper and freezing the pad for several hours), the soft rubber portion of the pad did not grind smoothly. Also after minimal grinding, small gaps began to appear between the hard plastic mounting plate and the soft rubber pad. But, rubber cement took care of the gaps.The SVL Limb Saver recoil pad made shooting skeet much less painless. Now, I can practice more and maybe even break one or two.

I am a gunsmith and have been grinding and installing Limbsaver recoil pads for many years, including on all my personal guns. I have never had a problem with them deteriorating as other comments indicated. If you grind them properly for the correct size, you will have no issues whatsoever. They deal with the Montana climate without a problem and my clients that travel to Africa with it's heat and humidity have never had a problem. The perceived recoil reduction is the best I have found of any pad out there.

I installed four of these on different guns, after several months, they became sticky and started to deteriorate. My gunsmith said this was a common problem with Limbsaver products. I am in the process of replacing them with another brand. Thanks!

I installed this on my ...

I installed this on my Remington 870. Even with the 3" magnums there was no shoulder pain. The pad sanded well to size with a very nice finish. Be sure to follow the directions for sanding to the letter and assure the sanding belt is well lubricated with WD-40. Sanding jigs are easily made from 3/4" pine boards which helps give an accurate sanding job and the proper angle on the heal of the pad.

I installed one of these pads on my Marlin 1894 44mag. What an amazing difference in felt recoil. Grinding was not difficult, but you do need to follow the directions and pay attention to what you are doing. I would definitely buy another.

Installed one on a rifle ...

Installed one on a rifle I was refinishing. The rough fit on the stationary belt sander went OK but when I tried to finish it off on the stock with my hand held vibration sander it just would not cut it. The rubber has too much give for the sand paper to cut. I haven't tried the Greenie pad yet to see how that works. Even if it cuts down on recoil I don't think I'd buy another grind to fit.

I just installed my ...

I just installed my second "limbsaver". Both on prairie dogs rifles. This one I put on my Bushmaster AR. My twelve yr.old grandson and I can shoot all day. They're great. But, for proper sizing and for a good appearance you need a stationary belt sander to do a really good job of grinding to the right profile. Yes, I'm getting ready to order a third one. This next one goes on the kids' 6.5 Swedish Mauser deer rifle.

I installed this on a 300 ...

I installed this on a 300 RUM. It was easy to achieve an accurate fit with a belt sander. I found the best way to smooth the rough finish is to go to the supermarket and buy a new 3M greenie pad, put on your favorite CD, sit down and get comfortable, and buff the surface with the greenie until smooth. You can't tell mine from a factory fitted limbsaver pad. An outstanding product for custom stocks, and reduces recoil as advertised.

Installed one on a stock I made from a blank for a S&W/Howa 1500 rifle in .308 Win. Recoil is not bad at all. Muzzle climb is not totally eliminated but better than the old S&W factory rubber pad for sure.

I love this product!! I put the small one that fits the Remington 870 express 12 gauge and it's a dream to shoot! I reload my own slugs and they are as powerful and hot as you can safely make them. I could take the recoil, but the stock recoil pad would dig into my shoulder and leave it sore after 10 shots. Now, I can load up my heaviest rounds and shoot 30-50 rounds and feel like I haven't shot a single one! I highly recommend it to anyone for every rifle and shotgun! GREAT PRODUCT!

This is the most ...

This is the most effective recoil pad that I have ever bought. For thirteen years I have been buying Pachmayr recoil pads that don't work, and then a salesman recommended Limbsaver. I tried it, and it worked so well that I will never buy a different recoil pad again. It cut the recoil of a .30-06 down to that of a .25-06, and since then I have installed one on each of my shotguns as well. I highly recommend this recoil pad for everyone, except those who thoroughly enjoy the benefits of recoil.
