Product Information

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

Being an experienced re ...

Being an experienced re loader for 35 years, I can honestly say that the Barnes bullets are the best bullet you can purchase for the buck. I've loaded them in 243 up to 50 cal Beowulf. Penetration is not even a factor with these guys. I have recovered only a hand full from hogs and they were long shots where the bullet slowed down a bit at impact. 400+yards. Loss of meat after a solid mass hit is very minor due to the fact the bullet 95% of the time passes completely through the animal.

Hands down the most ...

Hands down the most accurate bullets I load in any of my guns. .45"-.60" groups are the norm. Absolutely incredible. On game they are deadly, and open exactly as described. I have taken everything from Bohor Reedbuck, to Buffalo with them. Waterbuck, Wildebeest, and many other in between. My go-to bullet in this caliber.

Well, you've probably ...

Well, you've probably heard the great reviews on this bullet for heavier game, but I have a review on smaller game such as deer.I shot my first deer last weekend with this bullet between 2700-2800 fps. I hit the deer low, but still clipped the heart and did not hit any bone. This bullet does expand on smaller animals, not just the big ones. It made a pencil size hole in and a silver dollar size hole out. On top of that, the first and only load I've tried so far is shooting 1" or smaller groups at 100 yards out of my CZ 550.If you want one bullet for everything from small to big, this is it!I'm crimping in the first crimp groove. Of course I could not recover a bullet as it went through the deer and the tree behind it.

Used this bullet in South ...

Used this bullet in South Africa in July 04. The performed as advertised. Eight large animals were taken. Only two bullets were recovered. Both looked as in catalog. Perfect! One bullet entered a large Kudu on a quartering away shot and entered just in front of left hip. The bullet exited the animals mouth and broke his jaw. The total penetration was at least five and a half feet!This bullet is the only one for my Ruger .375 H&H.

I have been working with ...

I have been working with these bullets in my two .375 H&H rifles (M70 Safari Express and M70 Stainless Classic). A buddy and I have been working up loads for our upcoming moose/woodland caribou/bear hunt in Newfoundland this fall and a possible African trip next year. We have tried a bunch of different powders (IMR 4064, IMR 4895, H380, BLC(2), W760) but R15 produced, by far, the best results. Seating depth is very important, however, as we have found that differences as small as 20-30 thousands can really open up the groups. Best to keep these 50 thousandths or slightly more off the riflings. Once you find the sweet spot they shoot like gangbusters. These are a lot easier to get to shoot well than are the standard X Bullets.

Used this bullet in ...

Used this bullet in Namibia to take Eland and Leopard; very effective on both. Initially had concern that many say "premium" bullets are too stout for Leopard and won't expand; knew that penetration would not be a problem on nearly any game. After watching the Barnes videos of TSX bullets hitting thin ballistic gel blocks, I was convinced that they would expand quickly and I would not have to mess with two different loads. Took the heart/lungs out of the cat and he didn't go 10 yards. Great bullet...now if they would just "tip" it.

I've only used this ...

I've only used this bullet on Hogs here in CA. I load it to 3100 in my 378 Wby using RE22 or VV560. Both powders produce sub MOA accuracy. As for the hogs, I purposely shot one big sow through both shoulders, she dropped instantly, both shoulders broken and lungs destroyed, huge exit lots of bone missing. Obviously DOA. Shot 2 more big hogs at 175 - 200 yds facing away. One bullet entered at the base of the tail & exited through the top of the skull. Entire spine shattered. DOA. Second one was shot just in front of the right hip, through the paunch/guts, through left lung & heart arteries, and out the far shoulder, through the shoulder bone. DOA. I'm very impressed with these bullets.

Awesome accuracy and ...

Awesome accuracy and stopping power in my 378 Weatherby magnum. Over 3100 fps with H4831, groups consistently under .75" at 100 yards. Took two Nilgai recently in South Texas, both one shot kills. One large bull quartering towards me, bullet went in right sholder, took out both lungs and heart (guide described the remains in the chest cavity as "potato salad"). I lost the bullet in the stomach somewhere, it's about the size of a bushel basket, filled with densley packed semi-digested grass. This bull ran 75 yards before expiring. The second Bull dropped in his tracks with a broadside spine shot. Bullet exited animal, never recovered. One shot kills on Nilgai are rare. Unless you are using Barnes bullets.
