Note: Some break barrel action guns may be harder to break then others. It may take added force to break open the barrel for the first couple uses, after several uses, it will become easier. The rifle arrived double ...

The rifle arrived double boxed and undamaged in a brown cardboard box with little fanfare or ornament. Opening the brown box was the Gamo packaging complete with a multicolor striking advertisement of all the wonderful features the Whisper has to offer. 1st thing I noticed was the easy cocking action. Next I noticed a ton of grease around the barrel opening, which I surgically wiped off. I then cleaned all residues away from the barrel openings and breech area. I thought I read how it was so very important to keep oil away from those important areas and out of the barrel, but here was my brand new rifle chock full of the stuff? Not having a barrel-cleaning device, which at the time I had not purchased yet, I loaded up a superb RWS quality pellet. I stuck it into the barrel facing the proper way and noticed a nice tight fit with the rear cup area of the pellet fully flush with the barrel lip. Nice uniformity and exacting like fit. I closed up the break barrel, checking for looseness or play while rifle is cocked, finding none I took off the safety and prepared to fire. Not only did it not even mention having high quality fiber-optic sights on the rifle or how to use them, but also it said, Your Gamo air rifle comes with the scope mounted and bore sighted. Which is not the case. So I shot at my little target the best I could. I shot twice, which at 15 yards was way off. I did notice a burnt oil smell immediately after firing both times. After the two quick shots and trying to toy with the sights I decided to forego that route until I know what I am doing and just put on the scope. The scope itself seemed a decent quality, mounted easily and made the rifle look mean and sinister.It took quite awhile to sight in the rifle; I was almost convinced the clicks did nothing as it took nearly 40 clicks to get on paper. I was not at all impressed with this gun's performance. I bought this gun thinking that it would kill pests such as squirrels and rats; it didn't. It was quieter than most guns but not as quiet as it was led up to be. It only zeroes with the PBA ammo it comes with, and the PBA goes so fast there might as well not be a silencer due to the "crack" it produces. I used this gun for rats in my back yard. My dad and I both hit several rats square in the head at 13 yards and the pellet bounced off, the rat ran away and come back later. The same thing happened with several squirrels. I returned the gun for refund with no hassles. I would recommend buying a different air rifle.This gun does, however, have a great "cool factor" and comes with a cool scope. However, you can only focus the scope by changing the power, like the other Gamo rifles I have used.

After owning my Gamco Whisper for a couple of years now and killing quite a few of those loathesome black birds, I can say that the rifle is more than worth the money. I've found that I shoot the rifle much better with the open sights. For some reason I have less tendencies to jerk the trigger, and cas consentrate on a slow steady trigger pull, when using the open sights. The rifle is trouble free and a great shooter.

Ive had mine for about a year now and just cannot make it shoot acceptably. Ive tried several brands and types of pellets; shot off a bench at 20 yards and there is just no consistency. If Im generous maybe 4 out of 5 shots within 2.5 inches and one flier off 3-4 inches (up, down, left or right) from the rest. The scope is worthless; to change the point of impact the turrets have to be spun not clicked; had to take it to full travel to get 2inches. The sound is slightly reduced, but the accuracy is even worse than lousy. I even tried the fiber optic sites and even with those the gun cannot consistently place the pellets where I was aiming. Waste of money if you want to hit what you are aiming at.

Judging from the reviews of this air rifle it must be a hit or miss affair in regard to quality and accuracy. I would dissmiss the reviews that don't include accuracy testing from a bench rest at a known distance. I kept this rifle for 90 days, tried seven different .177 pellets and could never get any consistent grouping. I kept thinking I just needed to find the right pellet. Specifically I shot from a bench rest with sandbags at a measured 50 ft. I torqued all screws with a Wheeler Fat Wrench to be sure all were tightened the same. I would get a three or four shot group you could cover with a quarter and the next shot might be three inches high followed by the next shot which might be three inches low. That's a six inch difference in point of impact at only fifty feet. Every fifteen to twenty shots the barrel pivot screws would have to be retightened and this may help explain the total lack of accuracy but I doubt it explains all of it. I rechecked the base and scope rings to make sure they were still tight and they were. Off the same bench rest set up I shot three shot groups of less than a half inch at 100 yds with a Ruger 17 caliber and a Remington 22-250. The scope was clear but difficult to zero. It was necessary to turn the dials a full turn sometimes just to move point of impact a couple of inches. I did not fire the rifle for accuracy with the fiber optic sights because I was not interested in using the rifle without the scope. It is possible the scope was the culprit if the reticle was shifting a great deal from shot to shot. I would not buy this rifle under any circumstances but if you do maybe you'll be lucky like some of the other reviewers. At best it seems like buying this rifle is like a crap shoot.

I purchased a Gamo with a plastic trigger a while ago and thought it was a good pellet gun. That is until I tried an older Gamo with the metal trigger. What a difference! Now I wish I didn't buy my Gamo. The quality just isn't what it use to be and there are no modifications for the plastic trigger. Gamo is shooting themselves in the foot by reducing the quality of their guns. I will not buy another Gamo again.

The reason I didn't give it an excellent is it is slow and clumbsy loading! One pellet, then the whole act all over again wears ones arms out! Maybe one day they will come up with a quick load system? But really, for what it is, and what I paid for it, it does the job and then some. Raccoons run when they see me sneaking out onto my back deck. The scope does take some sighting in, but a decent scope. I have the pre-muffler edition so my rifle is pretty loud. I'm sure I can ad a muffler when I look for it. So if you want a strong, well built air gun, this is it. Like the previous gentleman said, use GAMO pellets.

I was disappointed in this rifle. I purchased it primarily because of the touted wisper quiet operation. The silencer part of it may work fine and the neighbors do not complain, but I cant hear it because the rifle itself sounds like someone dropped a banjo on your head from about 10 feet. The scope I recieved will not maintain its aimpoint either. However it is well made and attractive. The manufacturer simply needs to quiet the action a lot and use a better scope.

Gun is good. Chrono is close to that advertised. The scope however is junk. Will not focus. You will need to replace the scope, but otherwise it is a good gun.

Very disappointed with the air gun. Bought it to replace a cheap Chinese under-cocker that broke, but was able to hit a quarter at 25 yards every shot. Accuracy on the Whisper is horrible, cant get it to keep a sub 6 inch group at 50 feet off a bench. Not sure if it's the scope reticle that's shifting as other posters have complained about, or if it's just the nature of a barrel-cocker itself, never actually closing the exact same way after you reload ? Only buy this if you want to kill soup cans at 25 feet. Hitting a squirrel at 50 yards? forget about it.

I've owned a Gamo previously and used it until the spring broke. I ordered the Whisper and it worked fine, average acccuracy and trigger pull for a month. Then, when I was shooting the canister popped out of the stock. I tried t fix it but could not. I've sent it to Gamo for repair. BTW, if the gun doesn't break in the first 30 days you own it you have to send them a $10 check to cover their shipping costs back to you. Seems kind of cheap of them to me.
