Shaped for shooting comfort, the lever is angled slightly to keep the thumb from contacting the slide and has a double angle to fit the thumb perfectly. Ambidextrous Safety allows for operation with either the left or right hand, and Extended Safety features a wide thumb shelf for easier operation with the right hand. Both fit all 1911 frames and come with complete instructions. Requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.

I bought this for my S&W ...

I bought this for my S&W 1911. It is definitely not a drop in part. I not only had to file the profile of the pin that engages the sear, I also had to widen the slot that rides over the frame of the gun and file down the top of the exterior so that it does not interfere with the slide while the safety is disengaged. But I was able to successfully fit the part in about 3 hours and I have no gunsmithing experience at all. Once installed, the part works better than the factory safety. It engages and disengages with a positive click. It operates easily with the thumb without changing your grip on the gun but is stiff enough that it will not engage or disengage by inadvertent contact. The wide area of contact with the thumb makes it easy and comfortable to operate. I would rate the product higher if it did not require as much hand fitting. I would recommend it to anyone with basic do-it-yourself skills.

Being that this was my ...

Being that this was my first 1911 safety install, I was a bit worried about doing the job myself. Out of the box, the safety wouldn't pivot all the way down in the "off" position; some Dremeling had to be done to correct this. From there, I just did my best to match the internal cuts on my SW1911's stock thumb safety, taking my time and making sure I didn't take off too much material at once. The work was well worth it, as this safety feels great and functions perfectly. My only gripe? Well, I was expecting a satin-type finish as seen on some other Ed Brown stainless parts, but this is sort of a brushed stainless finish; you can't really tell from the stock photo. Nonetheless, it still looks good and functions even better.

It took 2 hrs of ...

It took 2 hrs of carefully taking a few thousands at a time off. There is alot of ex metal to trim on that small part. Had to trim some of the gun frame to get it to sit right. This was being put on a gold cup wanted to try the high hold with the thumb up on top. Looks great when it was finished. Large area for thumb to sit on. Very easy to take to much metal off or off at the wrong angle take it slow and will turn out perfect.

To be honest I bought ...

To be honest I bought this because it was on sale. I really wanted a tactical, not wide. The part appears very strong and well built, finished areas highly polished and will complement the lines of the 1911 well.First I put it on the grinder and ground off half the width and polished it. Now it's tactical.But that is just the start. There was PLENTY of extra metal on the nub that fits into the gun for engagement with the internals. It requires careful fitting in several areas. I used a Dremel tool for the initial fitting followed by small jewelers files for final fitting.It now works perfectly, requiring a simple nudge to engage or disengage, yet is positive enough not to bump loose in either direction. It operates very nicely, the angles on the lever are perfect. A perfect fit in my Springfield Armory 1911 mil-spec.This part will NOT fit without work. If you are prepared to do the careful fitting, it can come out perfect and work wonderfully. If you are not prepared, do not understand how the 1911 works or do not have the correct tools, stick with what you have or take the part to a qualified gunsmith.

This safety is well made ...

This safety is well made with a large thumb rest. It is a cast part as the seam line can be seen on the back side. Took about an hour with jewelers files to fit to a Kimber Gold Match II. Functions perfectly.

If you're looking for a ...

If you're looking for a big safety to rest your thumb on or just have trouble with the stock safety this thing is a godsend. With the huge paddle like surface there's no missing the thing and clicking the safety on and off becomes a breeze and your thumb will rest comfortably. Unless you have some sort of special concern (ie. carry) that necessitates a slimmer safety I'd say that this one's just about perfect (at least to my reckoning).
