Optimal hardness from heat-treating prevents fragmentation on even the toughest hide and bone. I have 30 years ...

I have 30 years experience with the 45-70 in many rifle types including Ruger #1 and several Marlins. This is easily the most accurate bullet I have ever found for use in the 45-70. I have pages of groups with this bullet in my files that are under an inch. The stand out powders with it are Benchmark, H335 and RL7. H335 give the best accuracy with several groups out my LTD-V Marlin going .25"!! I have used them on deer and had a field tester carry these hunting on bison and they have performed flawlessly. One large doe I shot with this bullet was 181 yards by my rangefinder. Good wound channel.

I think I just found my ...

I think I just found my favorite bullet. These things shoot accurately out of my Marlin Guide Gun, they feed fine when crimped in the cannelure and they leave nice clean big circles on paper. For some reason, it just feels right touching off these bullets in a 45-70. I haven't used them hunting yet, but after this deer season I'll know how they perform on deer. (yes I know they're a little big for deer, but if they shoot accurately, who cares? I hope sometime I can use them on a wild boar or a bear)

Absolutely amazing ...

Absolutely amazing penetration. COMPLETLY penetrated a 26" cypress as test medium. Bullets were not recovered (they just kept on going, and going, and going) Well worth the $. and out of a 1895gs.

I have used several of ...

I have used several of the Cast Performance bullets both in Marlin Guide guns, Ruger #1s, and other models. I have found all perform good, but this 460 gr gas check gave the best penetration of any of the Cast Performance line, and retained at least 90% or better of the original weight. I used it in a Guide Gun last November on a large bull giraffe and penetration and weight retention was great. I have used the 420 gr Cast Performance on Cape Buffalo with mixed results. On the 420 the meplat is so broad that it tends to shear off, thereby reducing penetration and weight retention. The 460 gr Cast Performance does not shear and gives deeper penetration, plus it has a slightly better sectional density. Should I hunt another large animal that requires deep penetration with a 45/70 in the future, I will be using this 460 gr bullet.

These are the absolutely ...

These are the absolutely most accurate bullets I've ever used in any 45/70. In this case I used them in a Marlin 1895 and was astounded by the first two shots as they were in the same hole at 50 yards. It was no fluke as the next two bullets gave me a 0.30" group! RL-7 powder works great with these.

These bullets are very ...

These bullets are very accurate out of my 45-70 guide gun with ported barrel. Recoil is stout but very controllable. I plan to use these to hunt bear in the Adirondacks this year, should have no penetration problems. Also no leading at all in my gun. I would recommend to anyone wanting to realize full potential of your guide gun :}
