.223 for deer?

I loaded some .223 ammo using the 65gr. Gameking because I didn't think my son(9yr. old)was ready to handle his .243 yet. He shot it very well at 100 yds. and had been practicing under field conditions.
He got his chance yesterday to shoot a spike buck yesterday. First deer! Perfect lung shot the deer dropped right away. There was a 4x3 buck in the group that didn't run off yet, so my son handed me the .223 rifle, instead of me reaching for my 7mmRM. I made a nice lung shot and the deer ran less than 50yds. and was down. We had two deer down in about 30 seconds with the Sierra Gameking bullet out of a Tikka Scout. I was very pleased with the bullet performance and we had a great day.

This is a rather deadly ...

This is a rather deadly bullet for hunting! I had my first hog using this bullet the other night shooting from my stand at about 100 yard. The bullet entered from the left side, broke the shoulder bone, broke another bone by the neck and went out the other side tearing up all the muscle in its path... That pig did not take another step after I pulled the trigger!

Accurate out of my PSA AR-15, 1-7" 16" barrel. I use AA2460 in Lake City brass, CCI400 primers. No problem at all getting sub-MOA groups at 100 yds. I hope to try them on deer this fall.

I have been using this bullet for about 4 years after a long search and trial and error with different brands/weight bullets.It shoots consistent 5 shot 3/4" groups at 100 yards. It holds groups out to 300+ yards using TAC powder and almost any brand of prepped cases. I generally use the cheaper Remington brass, fire formed and FL resized and it shoots the same groups.I get about the same results with both a stock Rock River 16" A4 profile heavy barrel, and a Yankee Hill Gov. profile 16" barrel. Both are 1:9 twist rate. It shoots slightly tighter groups in a pre-ban Colt 20" barrel H-Bar Sporter with 1:7 twist.It is devastating on coyotes and small game. While I cannot hunt deer with a .223 in my state, I have no doubt it would more than do the job.For punching paper, this bullet shoots as good or slightly better than other bullets I have tried including match bullets with expensive cases and a lot of time invested in prepping cases to exacting tolerances. This is the only bullet I buy anymore if I need any kind of stopping power and super accuracy.

I used this bullet in a Bushmaster with a 16 inch barrel 1 in 9 twist to take a 330 pound Oryx in Texas. ( Don't shoot them now as they are on endangered species list) It was about a hundred yard shot and the animal went down like it was hit by a truck and did not get up. Also shot a 75 pound wild hog at about 70 yards on the same ranch, same thing, one shot and it never even quivered. These bullets shot very well with Federal match primer, H4895, seated to a case over all length of 2.25 inches. One hundred yard groups were consistently around 3/4 of an inch shooting from a rest. This bullet is an excellent performer.

I bought this bullet to see how it performed on medium-sized game after using the Barnes 53gr for a while bullet because the Barnes bullet cost way more. Great choice! I tend to stick to neck shots, but its great to know that if the only shot I've got is a vitals shot, this bullet will penetrate and expand properly. Took a deer this last weekend and it dropped on the spot. Nice to have an affordable bullet that does the job perfectly.

I was looking for a high BC bullet that would be stable in my stock 181 series stainless Mini-14 (1/10 twist). It appears that I found it. 5 shot 100 yd. groups I cover with a dime if I do my part and the wind is calm. That's with H-4895. It's a keeper.

I wanted a bullet to use in my Remington VTR-15 for whitetail deer hunting. A 1" group would have been acceptable to me but I easily got .7" with it. I took a young buck and an average doe with them this season. This rifle is .223 Rem. caliber. The bullet performed great. So far I'm impressed.

I just used these bullets loaded in .223 rem and shot out of an AR with a 1-7 twist. I shot a 170# buck through the shoulder, it dropped dead in less than 15 feet. and a nubby buck through the front shoulder, this bulled shoots well but it didnt penetrate either deer, though penetration is not that important to me but those that want a through and through for better blood trail may want to use the Speer 70 grain.

Shot several one hole ...

Shot several one hole groups today with my 18" RRA varmint upper. Liked Benchmark and Target with 3 different loadings of each. But, not so good with BLC2 opened up to 1". I will be using this bullet for whitetail in the early doe season. I used the same 9 loads with the partition bullet and had several fliers and a best group of 1.5"
