Handguns that are used for concealed carry and tactical use must have a narrow profile thumb safety to keep them from being accidentally disengaged and snagging on clothing when drawn. Wilson Combat's Tactical Thumb Safeties are made just for that purpose. The extended lever is serrated to provide ample control under stress conditions without interference. Requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.

I bought one for a Colt ACP, as I have always installed Wilson safeties on all of my 1911s. However....THIS time around, NO amount of fitting would get the part to fit my Colt. The same was true of the Wilson 'drop-in' grip safety I purchased at the same time.

The finish is not exactly like my blued PT1911 but it's very close. You really have to look at it to tell any difference. I had to do a considerable amount of fitting for it to function properly. I had to sand some off the main pin as well as the little groove cut out for the frame to get it to slide on and off smoothly. I also had to file a portion of the edge that was contacting the back of my sear for it to function smoothly and properly. I reblued what I marred up while fitting it to my gun and now it fits and functions perfectly. I just wasn't a fan of the ambi-safety that came with the gun. If it weren't for the right grip holding it in. It would have fallen out.

Garbage. Literally. It's in my garbage can right now. As an earlier reviewer stated, this thing is well out of spec. It wasn't even close to going in when I got it, and some generous sanding got it to the point where it was basically a press fit. That's ridiculous. Don't buy this product.

Installed on my Springfield Mil-Spec and it looks perfect. The color matches the original Springfield hardware exactly. It's a bit over-sized and requires some fitting. I took my time with sand paper and a file. It's not a true drop in part by any means. I would recommend a gunsmith, but you can do it yourself if you are patient. You will need a file, sandpaper, and a flashlight (trust me). Take it completely apart and take your time. Don't force any parts, if it doesn't fit that means there is still more sanding/ filing to do.

installed in a Taurus pt1911 to replace that god awful factory ambi safety, and like previous posters it required some file and sanding work. a little off the main pin so it would slide smoothly in the gun, and some off the sear indent to accommodate a C&S sear (not necessary with factory sear) 100x better than the factory safety, great "click" when engaging and disengaging, 5 stars because minor fitting is to be expected.

I'd echo the other writers. Got this part to match the Wilson extended slide release. A little work with a file (don't overdo it), some careful eye and fit checking, and some polishing and it fit. Function is perfect- solid "click" in and out of engagement. Just the right amount of purchase for the thumb without getting in the way either holstered or while shooting. Finish excellent- matched my parkerized RIA 1911 just right.

Great upgrade!! Extended just enough to be easy to switch off but not so much that it gets in the way or snags on clothing. Part is not really blue, more of a Parkerized look. Not drop-in but almost. Couple minutes with a file and some fine grit sandpaper and it fit perfect in my Springfield Armory Mil-Spec.

Perfect...not too big not ...

Perfect...not too big not too small. Easy to get at without getting hung or actuated accidentally (I carry all day every day...trust me this is the one you want if you get an extended one on a carry gun) It will require some polishing/sanding/more polishing in Springfields as the pin is a little beefy. If you team with Wilson beavertail grip safety polish out the inside of that hole as well...just chuck up a Q-tip cut in half a few times with some polishing compound. Aside from that minimal fitting was required on my Springfield GI buildup. You will need some good files (small gunsmith files) a few stones and a polishing wheel. You can generally fit one in 20-30 minutes or less in most guns. The beavertail took WAY longer to tune up (more time than it took to cut the frame with the jig in fact!) This part is pretty easy...just take a small amount off till it engages and then polish it up a bit. It will take longer to sand/polish down the pin than fitting that safety part. Feels great once installed...nothing better out there.
