I thought the Otis cleaning kit was the smallest and lightest available and it's about the size of a baseball. The Patchworm Rifle Cleaning Kit fits in a 3" X 4" plastic bag with a zip closure and it weighs .75 ounces! It's the perfect size for a small range bag when you might want to do a little cleaning at the range without carrying all your cleaning gear, but it worked well cleaning at home, too. I think a 29"-32" barrel may be the longest this will clean, but that should cover most rifles. I cleaned a 1940 7.5X55 Swiss K31 rifle, a 1944 Mosin Nagant M38 7.65X54 Russian rifle, a 20" cylinder barrel Mossberg 590 12 gauge as well as a Beretta NEOS .22 LR pistol with the pistol version of this kit. The Patchworm did a good job of cleaning the powder fouling but I don't know if the Ballistol would do a good job with lead or copper fouling. I've used most bore cleaners but this was my first time using Ballistol. I don't like the smell. I also didn't like trying to pierce the Ballistol soaked patches on the end of the cleaning cord because that caused solvent to run down my fingers. If I wanted an all-in-one cleaner and lubricant, I'd probably use the Otis version. I prefer impaling dry patches and then applying cleaner or lubricant. I prefer mildly abrasive bore cleaners and I tested that as well and the Patchworm pulled the abrasive patches just fine. $2 for 12 replacement Patchworm patches seems steep. I'd think there would be laser cut holes in the center to make it easier to impale the patches. I had no trouble using inexpensive and very good Hoppes Sontara patches and adding my own cleaner or RemOil. The Sontara patches are a bit tougher to pierce, but not too bad if you use the .270-.35 sized patches because there is enough patch to grab and they are pre-soaked in solvent and oil. You can use .22 LR patches or probably the .270-.35 size for almost all calibers (that's nice!) and they'll be large enough to cover the caliber specific patch pulling bead, or you can

Good field kit

This is a nice field kit. I have so far cleaned my .22 rifles both bolt and auto with no problems using the included patches. I have also cleaned my ARs and a M1 Garand (using 30cal patches). The only real issue was trying to thread the flex rod past the enclosed compensator on the AR.
I've also tried cleaning a 12 gauge shotgun with an improved choke. Please be warned that the included adapter won't feed through a tight choke like the improved. I ended up tapping the kit out with a .22 cleaning rod as it was stuck tight at the choke.

I had been using a weedeater line and tried the patchworm kit on my .22LR, CZ American rifle. With Patchworm with .22 bushing and patch, coupled with Shooters Choice solvent, there is more even barrel cleaning coverage. I never cared for any type of cleaning rods as personal preference for cleaning my rifle. After 1000 rds of CCI Std, or 4-5 times a year, I clean my rifle. I shoot competition NRA SB Metallic Silhouette. The Patchworm kit does a faster and cleaner job than my weedeater line with patch.

This is a great item. Unlike the BoreSnake, the patchworm does not depend on gravity, so you can clean the rifle while it's on a vice or your lap. When used with the super intensive patches you have a cleaning system that weighs next to nothing, yet performs like a full size brush/rod combo. I take one on all my hunting trips, and often go for it first at home.

Great for guns like 10/22, lever actions, BAR's etc. where you cannot easily get to the chamber end of barrel to clean from. I have the 177 kit and am ordering this one as it has bobs to put on end of snake to fit it to the bore for just about every caliber. If the fit feels too tight, drop down one size of bob. Forget the other snake kits that use brass ends or embedded bristles, the brass ends are too hard to use and will scratch muzzle and bore. This one won't. I plan to use mine with a brushless solvent on a brand new BAR. The only weakness with this product is the pointy tip that you have to push thru a patch. I can see that wearing out, becoming dull or bent real soon but for the price and convenience, not having to run a rod from the muzzle, this is a no brainer.

A great field cleaning kit to replace the boresnakes. One kit will handle most calibers and is the same cost as a boresnake. If used with some of the foaming bore cleaners it even does a good job at home. Be sure to follow the instructions and not force more patches down the bore, they can get stuck and it is a pain to remove.

Excellent product; however, DO NOT attempt to clean a 17 caliber rifle with a 22 caliber Patchworm. 20/20 concepts makes a special kit for a .17. (Also, do not allow your friend to use your cleaning kit. Thankfully he did not damage his gun.) Again, great product, but use a little common sense when trying to pull additional patches through the bore...don't do it. (I later had a scary moment with my .223. After the episode with the .17 I should have known better.)
