Product Information

Federal Premium Personal Defense Ammunition is an excellent choice for law enforcement agencies as well as concealed carry permit holders. The unique center-post design of the Hydra-Shok Hollow Point delivers controlled expansion while the notched jacket provides efficient energy transfer for maximum penetration.

These personal defense loads feature increased muzzle velocity and energy compared to standard loads, the penetration and stopping power of Premium bullets and reduced recoil. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

My wife uses this in her Airweight .38. She loves it because she is not intimidated by the recoil. She comes away talking about how many good hits she had on target rather than how her hand hurts. I love it because it does not hurt her, and she has the confidence to train on target rather than prepare to "flinch."

I tested this ammo from a S&W with a 1 7/8 inch barrel. Fired into wet and dry newspaper at a distance of 10 feet, none of the rounds expanded. The nose of the hollow points either plugged up with paper or collapsed inward. I would not recommend this round for self-defense.

Bought this ammo for a Ruger LCR in .357 mag. Excellent accuracy with very light recoil. Shoots an inch low at 10 yards. But for the group size can't be beat.

Nice recoil, nice product, nice accuracy in a Taurus 85 Ultra Lite. But I have to question the intelligence of the Federal personnel that designed the package. This is user friendly? Go back to the drawing board guys.

Didn't buy it here, but have used this ammo. It's got real potential. Tested it with a water filled milk jug vs. regular FMJ ammo and the milk jug disintegrated. It simply exploded! FMJ ammo made an entrance hold and exit hole. This stuff will stop the bad guys.

I use this ammunition in a Taurus M85 stainless revolver with a 2" barrel. This ammunition provides controllable recoil and when fired into things like wet telephone books and other semi-hard objects, showed good expansion and penetration with very little fragmentation. If I ever needed to use my revolver for self-defense (main purpose for purchase of this gun) I would want to use this ammunition, and therefore, this is what I use when I carry my gun for self-defense.

This ammo is great for ultralight weight guns. I use it out of my 640 pd and it is powerful ammo with very manageable recoil. It has noticeably less recoil than standard .38 special and still maintains the ft.lbs of energy.
