Product Information

Made from polished and heat-treated steel, the RCBS Carbide 3-Die Set has a Sizer Die with Decapping Unit, Expander Die for expanding and belling the case mouth and a Seater Die for seating and crimping the bullet (Straight wall cases will roll crimp, unless the description indicates it has a taper crimp). No sizing lube is needed with these carbide dies. Shellholder sold separately. Comes with a plastic storage case and Lifetime Guarantee from RCBS

I gave it a one star because it is made like it will hold up to abuse. But only one star cause it is a terrible design. These dies are just too short. The decapping sizer die tapers the .380 case which is wrong. The expansion die expands ok but due to the sizing die creates a middle bulge when expanded. Then the seating die will not adjust enough to seat a 95gr without completeing a heavy taper crimp. Put that all together and you have a taper at primer end, ring around the middle, and bulging case at the top accepting the bullet. Save your money. I wish I had.

Follow up! After RCBS sent me the right expander die, they work great! No one can explain why the dies come with 38/9mm expander, but Larry and the rest of the RCBS crew are professional in there handling of the situation. I think Midway USA should go through the stock of RCBS 380 dies (215185) and pull the ones needing replacement and then contact RCBS for replacements. Nip this thing in the bud I say! :)

I seem to be having the same expanding die issue. The die wants to crush the case instead of "expanding" it. I called RCBS and they are sending out a replacement expanding plug. As far as the seating die goes, after following RCBS's instructions on setting the roll crimp, and then adjusting the seating plug, there is very little room for adjustment. I'm loading 100gr cast lead FP. I will give these dies another try when the expanding die plug arrives. To be continued.

Had a problem with the expander die expanding the case too much and not flaring the case mouth and it would end up crushing the case. The die is labeled 38/9mm. I contacted RCBS and they were very helpful and they sent me a new "special expander" which is not marked. This expander works perfectly. The new expander has a shorter shaft where it enters the case and the flaring is much further down. Five stars if the special expander would have been included to begin with not a 38/9mm expander.

I purchased this set of dies to load 88gr JHP for my new FS84. Everything was fine until I reached the crimp and seating die. You can not adjust the seating die down low enough to seat the bullet to the proper depth. I had grind the treads down so you could screw the seat screw down low enough. Other than that, standard RCBS quality. Great stuff, first Item I have ever had a problem with in 20 years.

A followup. Called RCBS, they are sending out the new parts. Said one part was not threaded correctly which they caught several months ago. It is annoying to find new parts defective but a call to RCBS will get ones on the way. One thing about RCBS when you buy a piece of equipment you will never have to spend another penny on it. So my annoyance at RCBS is in remission.

Excellent die set, perfect for reloading for my Bersa 380ACP. I use exclusively Hornady 90 & 124 Gr XTP hollow points. The seating stem that comes with the set doesn't fit my Hornady XTP's, so I called RCBS. They made a seating stem for me custom fit to the bullets I sent in. I love those guys!!!

I would have given this 4 stars, but I had to take a dremel tool round head stone to the seating die cup so that it would not dent lead roundnose rounds. Also, there is not much thread left to adjust the seating position once you get the depth close to what you want. The locknut is almost useless at that point. No other complaints, though.

This product is designed and built defectively and cannot be used as delivered. You cannot adjust the seating die to give the proper depth. Other reviewers have commented on this also. The decapping pin was bent on mine also and cannot be used. The lock rings are of course useless and should have been changed to a Hornady system years ago. My problem with RCBS equipment never ends. To get set up for a new caliber takes weeks because you have to return something for every caliber change, and then find something else wrong. If I was starting out again I would not buy RCBS anything.
