Product Information

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

Last elk season was the first year I used a Barnes bullet in my .325. I used the 180 gr. TSX. Wow! I shot a cow elk in western Colorado at 275 yards. She just folded when the Barnes bullet hit her. That was it game over. This bullet with the right load consistently gives me excellent groups at 200+yrds.

I've shot several different bullets in my 8mm-06 Ackley Imp. and most have performed great but once I tried the Barnes, the gig was up. No more looking for better bullets unless I use the 160 gr. The 180 grain at 3100 in front of reloader 22 is the most awesome combination of velocity and terminal performance I've seen to date. 5 big bull elk at ranges from 100 to 625yds and 5 one shot kills. Two bullets recovered, one from the long range bull and the other from a bull shot at 125 yards. He was broadside behind a 8" fir tree which was tight to his front leg. I held low and shot through the fir tree giving him a serious case of heartburn. I recovered the bullet next to the skin on the far side after it took out a rib on both sides. None of the petals were lost. Awesome! Would recommend it to anyone above all other bullets I've ever used.

I have been using a 8MM Rem. Mag. for the past 30 years. Years back I loaded Barnes 200 and 220 gr. for big bears and African game with outstanding results. Recently I switched to the Barnes 180 gr. for long distance for caribou and western hunting. AT 3200 FPS my Rem 700 groups 1/2 MOA with outstanding field results on two caribou ( both one shoot kills with the caribou dead before the rifle report got there ). Will be hunting moose in 2011 and will keep the 180 gr. as I believe this is a great moose load as well.

I love this bullet!!! worked up a load in my custom 325 wsm and have it shooting less than .250 at 200 yards. this year was out western Colorado and had a down hill shot at 350 yards at a 260lb 4x5 buck standing broad side. bang sending the 180g. tsx 3100fps exploding his heart. he only took a half step, and the work started, there was a small entrance wound and a baseball exit, no lost meat, but some nasty heart mush and lungs. This bullet will take any north American game with out any problem, as long as you do your part.

I have done quite a bit of load testing in .325 WSM with a number of bullets, various grains, and different powder combos and it's tough to beat a TSX bullet coming out of an A-bolt! Barnes' recommended load data was on the money. I have recovered several bullets out of water jugs to bundles of shingles with composite rail road ties behind them and EVERY ONE was a perfect, 4 pedal flower!

The 180gr TSX bullets are awesome. I loaded some up in my 325 WSM Kimber Montana with RL19 @3100fps and sub 5 shot MOA at 100yds all day long. GOOD STUFF!! This rifle has killed 7 bull caribou, 2 whitetail deer, and 1 black bear all one shot kills and all pass threw not one bullet found.

I am beginning to really like the triple-shock bullets from Barnes. I use them in my 35 Whelen and 300 Weatherby with excellent results. They give me top velocity, sub minute of angle accuracy and consistency in group location. I am loading this bullet in my 8mm Remington Classic over R-15 using WLRP and Remington cases. After getting load data from Barnes I have worked up a load that is driving this bullet to 2825 fps with an extreme spread of 31 fps for 15 shots. There are no pressure signs at all. Rounded edges on primers, no cratering of primers, no sticky bolt lift, etc. In fact I can load the cases 3 times with practical F/L resizing and the cases still chamber easily. Accuracy averages 1/2" for three shot groups and 3/4" to 7/8" for 5 shot groups. When comparing targets from prior trips to the range the first rounds typically impact within 1/2" of each other. The last three shots I fired were shots #36 - #38 without cleaning. The group measured 3/8". I am able to seat this bullet to 30 thousandths off the rifling due to the long action and magazine in the Remington. My OAL is 3.150". In my 35 Whelen CDL I am able to do the same, but in my Weatherby I still have a.250" jump and it shoots sub MOA. My former favorite bullet in the 8mm has been the Remington 185 Core-Lock. See my review on that bullet. For heavier game and long range the Barnes will definitely be my choice, but for deer, practice, and price the Remington is hard to beat. As for performance on game I have found if you keep the impact velocity around 1900 fps the Barnes bullets will open just like in the pictures and will kill as fast as anything out there.

This is a very good ...

This is a very good bullet indeed, my new favorite. Loaded for 2700fps in my 8x57 JS Mauser and using a 6.5 40mm OA scope, I can keep a group within 1/2 inch at 250 yards. There is very little fouling and the impact results are extreme. A gentle breeze carried off 92% of the weight of a medium watermelon at 250 yards. The recovered bullets flower just like I was told they would. I can't wait to take it hunting.
