Lyman does it again by ...

Lyman does it again by putting out another great reloading manual. Has lots of info and has lots of Lyman cast lead bullet loads, as usual. Also includes a good article on the reproduction 1876 Winchester Centennial rifle in .40-60, .45-60 and .45-75 calibers with smokeless powder loading data for each caliber. Highly recommend this one especially if you use cast bullets or own a 1876 repro rifle.

I am not as happy with the Lyman #49 as I am with older versions of the same manual. The loads all seem to be lighter and it can't be a coincidence that most of the "most accurate" loads listed are also the maximum load. This is not the case in older versions. Also, for the .41 Remington Mag data there is no info at all for cast bullets. They only list appox. 5 bullets, and they are all jacketed. On the plus side, there are MANY powders listed and described in detail. This manual makes for good reading, but for actual load data I'll go to my older Lyman (#45).

I bought this thinking it would be a good compliment to my other reloading manuals but it is basicly all cast bullet data...good thing it was not to expensive!!

I have been reloading for over 40 years and started with the Lyman Handbook back in 1970. I have used many references since then but still rely on Lyman for the best and safest reloading data. For anyone just getting started with reloading the front matter of the Handbook is a basic training course on everything you need to understand how to reload safely.

This is a very good reloading manual. I use it in conjunction with the Hornady. This doesn't show all the "steps" at each FPS, more like a low medium and high. However, it has much more variety bullet weight / type wise than Hornday. I would recommend buying this and the Hornady together.I like this better than my Speer 13 and Nosler 6 editions.

This is such a great manual that I tore it apart and put it in two binders so I could keep notes. I divided the binders at the .30 caliber mark.

My first reloading book and it's packed with solid information. Some of it is a little on the dated side but for loads in my mil-surp rifles, this book is hard to beat. I like the short history lessons for each caliber and the sections are well-thought-out.

There is some good info in the book but a lot of it is out dated and could be dangerous. I contacted Hodgdon Powder Co by phone to find out about a load that varied 6 to 7 grains from this book. They told me that they would shoot it due to high pressure.

I thought there would be more new data with newer powders. Same old loads for 30-06 etc. If you don't have a recent Lyman Manual, or if you need info for new calibers give it five stars, but I have the 48th edition so three stars.

Terrific book. Great information on potential case problems such as excessive pressure and symptoms. Loading data is top notch - I was pleased to find new powder loads for 250 Savage and 300 Savage (Hodgdon Varget).

This is definitely my favorite reloading manual. The pages are laid out with large print in an easy to read format. Jacketed bullets on one page and lead bullets on the next. If you load most of your non-magnum pistols with W231 powder than this is the only manual you will need.
