IMR 4895 is one of IMRs most versatile powders. Originally a military powder featured in the 30-06, IMR 4895 is extremely versatile. From the 17 Remington to the 243 Winchester to the 375 H&H Magnum, accuracy and performance are excellent. In addition, it is a longtime favorite of Match shooters.

Important Information:

Do not exceed the loads displayed in the reloaders guide.

Never mix any two powders regardless of type, brand, or source.

Never substitute any smokeless powder for Black Powder or any Black Powder substitute.

I started using IMR 4895 about 7 years ago when I started loading match grade ammunition for my M1 Garand. Since then it has found it's way into my M852, M118, and .223 Remington loads. For a gas gun like the M1, M14, and M16/AR-15 it's usually my first pick and it is usually better than Hodgdon's H4895 which tends to climb in pressure rather quickly. Lot-to-lot variations are some of the best that I've ever seen. I might have to adjust 0.2gr from one lot to the next if at all (and rarely do I have to adjust).

Truth is, it's hard for ...

Truth is, it's hard for me to say how well it works because it meters horribly. You cannot measure this powder through most powder measures. I will eventually load a small batch of 223 by weighing each individual charge. You really need a trickler / electronic scale to deal with this powder's long grains.

This is the only powder I ...

This is the only powder I use for .308, 30 06, and 8x57 Mauser. I like the long grain of the powder as it gives a good case fill and it reduces the likelyhood of accidently double charging a case. It shoots clean, and doesn't seem to soot up the barrels. I have produced very accurate loads for my Rifles with this powder and am completely satisfied with it.

Found this powder too ...

Found this powder too work the best in my 243 Browning BAR. Loading with 85gn Sierra BTHP Im able to hold1-1.25 inch groups @100yrds.This powder has given me the best result's over the standard recommended powders.

I have standardized on ...

I have standardized on IMR 4895 for almost all rifle cartridges I hand load from .223 to light bullets in .300 Win Mag...including 6.5x55, .30-30, .35 Rem, .30-06, 8-mm Mauser. Check the reloading manuals, and you will find accurate load information for most cartridges in this range! I buy in bulk and save a lot of both money and space on my bench.

This was the first powder ...

This was the first powder I bought when I started reloading my .303's. I picked it based on the velocities with my bullet choice. (123gr Hornady) It is pretty clean. I do notice some small specks in the barrel after shooting. Don't know if it's the powder not burning completely or just small bits of copper. Either way I'm on my 3rd pound and now gonna try with 150gr Hornady bullets.

I've used 4895 powder my ...

I've used 4895 powder my whole life in 30-06's. And in whats left of a case from 1934, it is what they used then, as well. It works excellent in our guns and with a pet load with a 110 grain spire, RN, or HP jacketed bullet it is a long range meat getter. A true one shot dropper. And easy on the shoulder. It's the only powder I load for my rifles.

Great powder in the M1 ...

Great powder in the M1 Garand. Original Mil-Spec as previous poster mentioned. It is worth noting that standard LR primers should not be used in semi-auto rifles as the loose firing pin can cause a slam fire. Use Mil-Spec (CCI #34) primers as they are designed to prevent slam fires.

Great results with this ...

Great results with this powder! I'm reloading both 30-06 155 gr Hornady A-max, and 45-70 Govt 300 gr Hornady JHP. Very accurate loads when used with this powder. Excellent case fill in both cartridges. The short grain powder meters well in Lee's Perfect measure.

My 7MM powder of choice ...

My 7MM powder of choice hands down. I shoot it in my 7-08 with a 150 grain Partition and I am still working on my 7MM mag load. I also use it for a 308 for a friend and my brother in law switch for his 30-06. Very much looking like my go to powder.

It's fine granulation ...

It's fine granulation meters well. Many target shooters favor this powder for their 308 & 30-06 with 168 grain bullets for fine accuracy.
