The Hornady Lock-N-Load Ammunition Concentricity Gage is the first tool on the market to both identify and eliminate bullet runout. Bullet runout can be caused by a number of different variables in the reloading process and can affect the accuracy of loaded ammunition. By identifying bullet runout and eliminating it, ammunition becomes more consistent, which leads to better accuracy. Just place loaded cartridge in the tool, roll it, and identify runout on the dial. Once runout is identified the dial indicator is used to adjust runout to zero. This tool will work with both reloaded ammunition and factory ammunition to eliminate bullet runout and make it a thing of the past.

I have been waiting for ...

I have been waiting for this tool since January and it was worth the wait. Over the last few days, I have straightened several hundred rounds of once-fired 30-06 ammo. Before straightening and without any neck-turning, all reloads averaged .003" runout with the best at .000" and the worst at .007". After using Hornadys concentricity tool: 95% averaged .001", 99% averaged .002", and 100% averaged .003" or less runout. Best results were obtained by quickly turning the runout adjustment knob slightly over .020" (or more) to rapidly bend the cartridge into alignment. Works great on reloads but I gave up trying to straighten crimped military brass. Cannot wait to see how the straightened ammo performs in competition this fall.

After using the tool for ...

After using the tool for several months I feel the need to change the review. The directions tell you to do your runout checking and pushing on the bullet. I've found much better success checking the neck area of the case and pushing there, just below the mouth. I get better readings there and pushing there seems to correct the runout better. It still has trouble correcting runout on tough cases like the WSM but overall I'm liking this a lot better than when I first got it.

All previous products just informed you about runout. This one does something about it! Before, if runout was too excessive, you either pulled the bullets and started over, or you reseated the bullet slightly deeper, rotating the case several degrees with the bullet seater.

The gage works just as ...

The gage works just as advertised. It measures and straightens rounds very quickly. However, I still haven't been able to figure out how to load rounds into it efficiently. It seems to require three hands, one to hold the round, one to withdraw the bullet mandrel, and one to pull out the indicator arm. If anyone has the trick for doing this easily, I'd like to hear it.

The previous reviews say it all, just offering a tip here. After I correct the run out to .002 or better I then crimp in the bullet at the case mouth using a Lee "Factory Crimp" die. Checking the run out after confirms its been locked in (previous setting remains, the crimp die does not alter the run out) Bench testing identical reloads with only exception of corrected run out consistently shows this gauge works!Thank you again Hornady!

This is an awesome product , so simple to use you shouldnt even have to read the instructions. I have got my reloads down to .001 on my rem 22/250 and it now shoots consistantly below .5 at a 100yds. great product at a very affordable price !

This piece of equipment is well made. The instructions for setup and operation are clear and easy to follow. I checked the runout on several boxes of reloads. The reloads that shoot one hole groups showed zero runout. The other reloads had runout from .002 to .006. I tried correcting this runout as per the instructions, but succeeded only in putting a small dent in the side of the bullets. I re-read all of the reviews. No help. I now have an $85.00 tool that will tell me that there is runout in the reloads that I already know don't shoot accurately. If the tool won't correct runout on an uncrimped reload, how can it correct runout on a crimped factory load as claimed? I wish I had my money back.

Very good tool. My only ...

Very good tool. My only issue with it is that the nylon tipped screw to adjust the run out wears out to fast. The first issue I had was that the larger diameter plastic head on this screw fell off and then the nylon tip smashed flat. I called Hornady for the lifetime warranty and they told me that since I was using the tool to straighten surplus military cartridges, they wouldn't warranty this tool. I told them that their add does not say anything about limitations on it except that it will only except a 4" cartridge. They then said they would send me two of these screws but that would be the end of the warranty for me on this item. Overall, I love this tool because of the capabilities that no other tool provides in one package. Just wish that I knew when I bought this tool that lifetime warranty was open to their judgment call on what is covered. I would buy this tool again.

loll start off by saying that when you use this tool, all youre checking is the run-out from the rim of the case to the bullet. This will be fine if the rim of the case is concentric to the body of the case, if however the rim is not concentric to the body, you need two tools to get the job done. To illustrate what I mean, go ahead and cleanup the run-out on your bullet, now dont remove the bullet and simply move the dial indicator to the left over the body of the case near the neck and take a reading, and the move it even more left as close to the rim as you can, and take another reading. If all your readings where within .001, you have one heck of a straight and concentric case. This tool cannot correctly measure bullet run-out when the rim and body of the case are not concentric. In my case, out of a lot of 100 22-250 cases, there were fewer than 10 cases that were truly concentric along the full length of the case (in other words the rim and body were truly concentric), and this tool trued them up perfectly. As for the second tool I mentioned above, its the Sinclair Intl concentricity gage. The Sinclair tool truly measures bullet run-out off the body of the case (where it is chambered) and not the rim, however it cannot correct the run-out. Now you see the need for two tools, one to correctly measure bullet run-out, and the other to correct the run-out. This Hornady tools is well built, and for correcting bullet run-out it works great!

Decent product. Didn't like the way the gage sat horizontal to my work bench. Had to look down on it. Went with the Forster which has the gage at eye level. But for what it was made to do, this works fine.

Folks, it appears that MidwayUSA/Hornady, has brought us into the 21st Century with this tool. In my review, I' m not going to go into the nuts and bolts of this exceptional unit. There are 24 reviews already. I doubt that I can add much to that. I do have something very relevant in mind though. A couple of years ago, I purchased a full set of Kreg Pocket joinery tools. I put my K3 jig on a beautiful piece of wood. Handles and all. Mobility of the highest order. Now, comes our darling here. I went out today (Monday) and bought a beautiful piece of wood. I installed 4 large rubber feet on the bottom. A router table "round over" on the edges. Two generous applications of Clear Kote to bring out the figure of the wood. Tomorrow, smack in the center, El Hornady will be mounted. Two containers, one at each end for my ammo. To Do, left side and Done, right side. On each end, one old fashioned screen door handle to make it easy to move almost anywhere. When I' m through here, the Seamstress at my wife' s Dry Cleaners is going to make a canvas type lined cover for the tool. This will include snaps. The bottoms attached to the wood and uppers to the material. As she pointed out, when I transport it from place to place, the cover won' t be falling off. The size of my board is something like 12in. deep and 18in. long. I'll be able to put it here on my desk, our kitchen table, take it to the range, transport in the floorboard of my truck, lower the tailgate and even set up there. The mobility aspect is almost endless. I take a shotgun cleaning patch, dampen it with Break Free and give it a very light coat of protective oil. Here at the farm, this thing is getting a ton of handling. I don' t oil the dial though. I have no intention of putting this back on the bench somewhere. I'll be using it!
