The Vltor CASV-14 Extended Upper Handguard Modular Rail System is a lightweight, versatile addition to enhance the performance of Springfield Armory M1A and M14 pattern rifles. The Extended Length of the CASV-14 incorporates a Full Length Picatinny Top Rail that runs from the front end of the handguard all the way back to the stripper clip guide, providing ample room for attaching virtually any optical sighting solution. The handguard Semi-Free Floats the barrel and is secured to 3 points on the rifle for rock solid installation. Contact points include the stripper clip guide, rear of the barrel and at the operation rod guide, with the barrel free floating from the op-rod guide forward for increased accuracy potential. Additional features include multiple rail mounting points for the addition of Modular Accessory Rail Sections (sold separately), as well as 2 integral Quick Detach Sling Swivel Sockets.

The CASV-14 Upper Rail Assembly is compatible with most models of the Springfield M1A and military M14 variants, except for models with a Heavy Barrel profile such as "National Match," M21, or M25 types. It is for use with Standard Mil-Spec Barrel configurations only. In order for the handguard to be mounted to the rifle, the OpRod Guide has to be Fully Exposed (front and back). The CASV-14 will not interfere with any aftermarket or mil-spec stock assembly and is a top handguard platform only with no provision for mounting a lower handguard section such as that used by the M1A SOCOM II Cluster Rail system.
