The Hornady Lock-N-Load Bullet Comparator is perfect for the reloader looking to quickly and precisely measure seating depth of loaded ammunition from the bullet ogive to the base of the loaded round, to eliminate variation in seating depth. The comparator attaches to any caliper and measures cartridges from 17 to 45 caliber. When used in conjunction with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage (Sold Separately) you will able to determine the exact bullet seating depth for the ultimate precision.

Comparator body

6 Comparator inserts for the following diameter bullets: 224, 243, 257, 277, 284 and 308. Other inserts sold separately.

Allen wrench

Notes:

Slot on comparator body is cut off-center

To position the comparator with the Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage, install comparator body to the caliper with the screw through the thicker leg of the body. This allows the proper off center alignment of the Length Gage.

Easy and effective

I didn't realize how much i was missing out not using a comparator set while reloading. Because of inconsistent meplats on my 69, 77, & 80 gr SMK's, this tightened up my reloading and shooting accuracy significantly. Work with any calipers and a must for any level of reloader.

Super tool for getting ...

Super tool for getting consistent seating depth. Also, you can measure bullets for consistency in ogive length. I measured a bunch of 85g Sierra for my .243 and found greater than .005 difference in bullet length to the ogive. Doesn't seem to have a great impact if you're ok with 1" group, but seems to make a difference if you're working for sub-moa groups.

After using the bullet gage on some 223 ammo I recently loaded I was surprised to see how much variation there is on the seating depth to the bullet ogive. I'm hoping to see an improvement in accuracy after making the seating depth more uniform. I also ordered the headspace gage set, with the comparator. I learned the hard way that I would have been better off just ordering the headspace inserts separately, or at least without the comparator body. You can use the comparator body from the bullet gauge set saving yourself several dollars.

I got the kit with more inserts (for future caliber purchases) but this stuff works awesome. Definitely worth the money. It is amazing how much the nose of the bullets differ (even with the same brand), and this really helped me shrink my groups down with consistency. Will definitely purchase again if called for.

This product is excellent. Provides very accurate measurements. Also, this is the same base (red part) as Hornady's lock and load headspace gauge so you can save some money by just buying it once.

This set of gauges is a must IMO. Very easy to use and fast to determine at what depth to seat your bullet when developing loads. I would recommend new reloaders make it a must have on their list.

These comparators combined with the Stoney Point OAL gauge allow me to measure exact dimension to the point where bullet ogive contacts the lands of the bore.Back off a thousandth or so and I've got the correct dimension for perfectly seating a bullet to an individual bore. I've been using this combination of comparators/OAL gauge for about five years, and find the tools indispensable for determining exact seating depth for each rifle that I shoot.
