The Midwest Industries SS-Series Free Float Tube Handguard system is a one piece handguard with a complete top rail for a no gap monolithic look. Side and bottom rails are completely up to the operator, allowing a truly custom rail configuration. Machined from 6061 Aluminum, the SS-Series are among the lightest railed handguards available.

This is the lightest rail ...

This is the lightest rail on the market. Nevertheless, it is sturdy enough to stand up to heavy bipod and sling use without over flexing. Installation with the receiver appears solid, although I am a bit worried about it loosening up - I loctited the jam nut, but not the anti-rotation screw. With about 150 rounds thru my 6.5Grendel build, it has not shown any signs of loosening (I did put a reference line on bottom to monitor). Note: the Olive Drab color is more correctly called "light Gray". Overall an excellent value and doesn't add much useless weight to light-weight builds.

Looks great but pain to install

The handguard looks great and a little lighter then the old style quadrail tube that was on my rifle but installing it was a huge pain. The hardware for the add on accessory rails stick out too much and hang up on the low profile gas block and not allow the handguard to screw onto the barrel nut. Had to install the accessory rails afterwards and there is very little space inside to work with at that point.

Well made, nice fit. Had clearance for my stag model 8 piston upper. The accessory rails are a little tall. They are a little uncomfortable to put your hands around and hard to avoid on carbine length. However they are nicely rounded, not sharp at all. Looks very nice, well made, and mated to my flat top perfectly.

Good free float tube nice light weight solid construction. Great buy. One note though. If you plan to hide your gas block don't mount the rails till AFTER you mount the tube. The screws are too long and have to be "adjusted" if installed before you put the tube on with the gas block already installed. Will not rotate past. Will require cutting tips off with dremel.

I like the ability to place the rails where I want, and the light weight. The fit and finish are very good, my only quibble is with the laser engraved T-marks, they should be deeper in my opinion. That is a very minor point. I will definitely buy again for my next project, and will consider their other rails if I go non free float for a particular build. One more thing, it would be nice if a jam nut wrench were thrown in for a few bucks more.

I love mine. One thing to consider when installing one of these is your desired rail locations & lengths. From experience I can say it is much easier to figure out those things before you install. My advice is to spring for the extra rail pieces up front and save yourself a bit of a hassle. I agree that some minor fitting is required to get it to mate up absolutely perfect with the receiver. Minor point though. Overall it is a solid hanguard.

This item dramatically improved the look of my DPMS sweet 16. The only improvement I would suggest is a threaded hold for the sling swivel stud. On the carbine length, putting the rail on the bottom for a picatinny bipod does not leave much room for hand placement. I drilled and tapped mine and it works perfectly with plenty of room to comfortably shoot. Since the metal is fairly thin, I reinforced the back with a nut. Solid as a rock now. I would buy this again and recommend to anyone.
