This is definitely ...

This is definitely deserves 5 stars for what it is. It is a great low cost front rest. As other reviewers have mentioned, some sort of material on the rest is a must. I used it today without the material and it worked fine but when the my rifle recoiled it slid right back and sometimes off. Filled it with sand and it is quite sturdy. This is however not a replacement for a proper rest or bipod, but for what it is and what it does for the price, it is 5 stars.

Like the other reviewers I have had one of these for years. However, my experiences has not gone as well as theirs. The price is right but Hornady should have put a lip at the end of each step. Used as is, your rifle -will- slide off the step if you are using the middle rest. Yes, you can glue felt on it but I think this is something that should have been addressed at the factory. You would have thought that in the decades since this product came out, someone would have thought of that. Buy it for the price but be prepared to modify it before you use it.

I bought one of these on ...

I bought one of these on sale years ago.I added one of the leather bags called 'Owl Ear' tied on with a coupleof shoestrings.It seemed better than using my rangebag and I figgured I would get something better soon.Ive painted it camo, dragged it out to the Dakotas, dropped it off benches and genrally abused the heck out of it.I own at least three other rests and this one gets used all the time.Get one until YOU find something better.

Filled with sand, and ...

Filled with sand, and with felt strips cut and glued on each level, this is a great rest. The felt lets the gun rest without sliding. I have used this unit for 8 years and it still works well.

Extremely durable and ...

Extremely durable and portable. Has a plug that you can remove and fill with old brass, sand, etc for ballast. Putting a nonslip pad on each level is a plus.
