The Shok-Buff prevents the slide from battering the frame during recoil by sandwiching a 1/10" thick poly fiber buffer between the slide and frame contact areas. Provides the optimum balance between shock absorption and longevity. Easily replaceable after absorbing up to 1,000 rounds of repeated firings, the Shok-Buff slides over the recoil spring guide between the guide and spring. Fits Government models only. Package of six buffers.

I was not enthusiastic about using a buffer till a friend at the range insisted and gave me a free one at the range for my new Kimber. They take a little edge off felt recoil and do endure a beating that would otherwise impact the frame/slide. I buy Wilson Shok-Buffs from Midway and am putting six more on my wish list.Users should inspect them every time they clean their pistol and replace when about to shred or are otherwise worn--especially for defensive pistols.

I am not reviewing this particular buffer pad specifically, but rather letting owners of sub 5" barreled 1911s know that a buffer pad on a commander or any shorter barreled 1911 may cause it to not cycle properly. The slide needs a certain amount of distance to generate momentum before it chambers a new round from the mag, and the buffer reduces that distance. In my 5" barreled kimber, a buffer pad makes no difference; cycles great. In my 4.25" colt commander, a buffer pad caused jams about every 20th round or so. I had to remove it. Now it cycles great. Understand this b4 you buy.

I have always used these on my Colt Delta Gold Cup. Even with the hottest 10mm loads, Shok-Buffs suck it up. They do not impede or degrade the action of this weapon in any way. They greatly reduce impact and thus any associated wear. Easy to install and cheap enough to use, I recommend them for use in all similar pistol applications.

My father has used shok-buffs in his 1911 for years and advised me to do the same when I bought my first 1911. All told, I would rather have a $1 easily-replaceable piece of plastic absorb the shock and wear than damage the more expensive metal components. My father's colt 1911 has never had any problems from the shok-buff, nor has my olympic arms 1911.

Put one of these shok-buff's on my Sig 1911 C3 with an extra power recoil spring. The combination reduced felt recoil significantly. My gun still functions flawlessly. Getting back on target is faster.

Shot my RIA 1911 after ...

Shot my RIA 1911 after installing the buffer. No problems and the recoil felt appreciably less. I shot my XD40 right after and the recoil felt equal. No function problems after almost 100 rounds.

I use these buffers on a S&W Performance Center 1911, a Springfield Armory MC Operator 1911 and a Kimber Custom Eclipse 10mm 1911. All three 1911's are full size, if that makes a difference. The buffers do not affect the normal function of any of my pistols when they are installed. I am able to slingshot the slide closed, and slide stop & feeding operations happen as they should.These buffers do somewhat soften the felt recoil from my heavy target ammo, so they do spare the frame some battering damage. I only change them every 2000 rounds or so, and I have never had one fragment or otherwise fail.

I bought a Wilson Protector in around 2000-01. The pistol came with buffers. I have never fired my .45 without the buffers and I have never had a problem with my pistol. Bill Wilson and his people know what they are doing. My wife has been using Wilson buffers in her S&W 1911 .45 and has never had a problem with her pistol. I wouldn't think of not using buffers in my pistol while carrying or at the gun range.

Not exactly sure if there was a huge difference when I used these, allmost felt like my GI ran a little smoother, not a HUGE difference, but notable. worth the money? I would say....absolutely. whats a couple bucks when it comes to one more mod on your 1911?When I bought mine, I saw on another site people were having trouble with their 1911 feeding, Im glad to say I never had any issues, switched my buffer out every 6 months or so...The only type of 1911 I would not recomment these for is the officer size, as there is a much smaller slide stroke, I can see that creating problems.commander and goverment models = A+++

I have these on my Rock ...

I have these on my Rock Island Tactical and American Classic II 1911's. Both are full sized government models. They have worked without a flaw since I install them. I can still slingshot both guns, and the slide release seems to work as smooth as before. I have used on in the RIA for around a thousand rounds. I just replaced it last weekend, though it looked like it still had plenty of life left on it. I have had the one on the ACII for 500 rounds or so, and it too has worked very well. Neither gun has ever jammed, with anything that I have put through it. I can't say that I've noticed a reduced recoil, but I shoot different reloads of various types, so recoil varies anyhow. They are cheap, and I feel that they save some wear on the gun, so I will continue to use them.
