This product is a medium-heavy crystalline coating which is ideal for firearms that must perform under adverse weather conditions. The porous surface created by this process lends itself to absorption of oil or spray-on/bake-on finishes. Its non-reflective surface is perfect for tactical and hunting situations. Just degrease, blast, and immerse your parts in the solution. Then oil or coat with a finish such as LCW DuraCoat.

Technical Information

Process:

Clean and degrease all parts thoroughly

Fill heating tank with 4 parts clean water and 1 part parkerizing solution

Heat solution in heating tank to 170-185°

Condition solution by immersing 1 pad of course steel wool in heated solution for 30 minutes

Immerse parts in heated solution for 5-15 minutes

Add clean water as evaporation takes place

Immerse parts in post-treatment solution, or apply spray-on finish

Notes:

Zinc Phosphate is especially suited as an undercoating for DuraCoat.

This parkerizing solution creates a medium-heavy crystalline coating which enables the surface to absorb oils or spray-on/bake-on finishes.

Straightforward to use, ...

Straightforward to use, and gives a really nice finish. I went to a kitchen supply store and got a stainless steel steam table tub: long, wide and deep enough to do a 6" barrel K-frame revolver, and lots of different sizes. Also got a round, deep one like you'll see on a salad bar, perfect for smaller stuff.

This Lauer parkerizing solution is a great value. To those disinclined to parkerize due to the tank/heater costs, try this: Qty. (3) 12-inch long stainless steel drywall mud pans from Home Depot joined end to end with stainless steel pop rivets (after cutting the ends off the middle pan). Then, JB-Weld (seal) the joints, covering the end joints too since the Home Depot mud pans are only spot welded at the ends. Add a $15 water heater (electric) element, and you are ready to go. Worked for me, and the finish on my new barreled action looks better than finishes I have seen on new factory guns.

I re-parked an old 870 ...

I re-parked an old 870 Wingmaster Police with this solution and am very pleased with the results. This was my first attempt at parkerizing. I blasted first with 80 grit Black Bull Garnet Sand media that I picked up at Tractor Supply in a blast cabinet that I made. I boiled the parts in purple degreaser prior and after blasting. I preheated the parts in distilled water before submerging into the solution. The finish came out dark grey which I like. I did not use a post-black solution. Just follow the directions and make sure to coat the thing in a ton of oil right after pulling out of the solution, and keep oiling for a few days after as it really soaks up the oil. The most difficult thing about the whole process is finding a large enough stainless tank that doesn't cost a fortune.

This was my first time Parkerizing and it worked great. I'm glad I bought the bigger bottle because I had enough to do it twice if I screwed up. My cheap SKS looks good now.

I have tried several other brands. This is the very best. I followed the directions, except no bead blasting. I found out if the part is clean and free of rust I could get an excellent dark color by just boiling in degreaser, rinsing with distilled water and immersing the part into the Parkerizing solution. After the part is finished in the Parkerizing solution, shake off then put the part into water soluble oil. Watch out for rust after rinsing.

Outstanding parking ...

Outstanding parking solution. Mixed one full gallon with 4 gallons distilled water and was able to fully Parkerize 38 firearms (most of them AK builds and C&R rifle refinishes) over a period of probably 8 months, storing in plastic containers when not in use. It did start to lose its ability to give a really good deep dark Parkerizing after about 30 guns, and I'm now just buying a new gallon. It was still giving a great, even park, just not as dark as it was when I first began using it. For the price, though, it lasts a tremendously long time and I couldn't be happier. Very easy to use, with outstanding results. I'm buying it again and will happily continue to do so in the future.

This product does what it says it does. Be sure to follow the instructions. Be sure to do all the parts of a gun at the same time if you want them to all have the same shade of phosphate. The tone will get lighter each time the solution is used. Excellent protective finish.
