After seven years and ...

After seven years and 14,390 rounds, the split threaded end on my decapping pin sleeve cracked and released the decapping pin. Other than this, there have been no failures of the dies and every round has functioned as good or better than new "factory" ammo! If I could buy just the neck expander and decapping pin retainer, I would keep using this die for another 7 years!

I have been reloading handgun and rifle bullets for about 20 years. I have an old set of RCBS carbine dies for .45 ACP and decided to get a new set to go with my new progressive PRO 2000 RCBS press. The resizer and expander die work fine. The bullet seater and crimper (taper) die is a joke. My old set used two sets of dies for this. I guess I am just a dunce, but I could not get it to work correctly. I went back to two dies to do the job (the progressive press has a five station set up). I am now a happy camper who will try and figure this die out on my Rockchucker and maybe switch over. I was planning on using a lockout die, but upon reading the reviews of how difficult it was to operate, I think I will stick with what I know. If you have problems with this die, buy the taper crimp die separately and use the other for bullet seating.

I have used these dies for a while. They produce excellent reloads for my 1911s. I can't speak for the sizing die issue mentioned earlier other than to say MY die resizes sufficiently to run in my guns. As to the seating/crimping issue, you guys do know that you can do that with these dies, right? In the first step, set up the die backed out as to do no crimping and then adjust the seating stem to seat to your desired length. Then, back out the seating stem to the top and adjust the die body to give you the desired crimp. Perfect every time. I've been doing it for years. Of course, on a progressive press, you would need a second die to do this, but you would need two dies anyway. If you want a second seating/crimping die, they are readily available from RCBS. Including a 4th, separate die for dedicated crimping would up the cost of the set and probably not save much, if any money over buying a 4th die separately.

The dies work as promised but RCBS seems to love requiring small hex key (allan wrenches) for their products. However, they do not include them with the product. I had the same problem with one of their powder tricklers.

Seating & Crimp die are ...

Seating & Crimp die are an absolute joke. No happy medium. Either crimp to light or to heavy and crushes the case when seating. This really should be a two step process. Also if loading certain hollow points you will need it to be a two step process, as if crimping at all will either crush or round off the tip with the provided seating guides. I went with a Lee setup and couldn't be happier!

Good dies, only issue I had and contacted RCBS is that the size die will not fully size 45 ACP cases due to carbide ring inside, 200 thou @ case base, RCBS states that if you send five not sized cases fired in your gun with size die they would fix the issue, the taper crimp should be a two step process for optimal bullet seating.

I've been using this die set for about 3 years now in my RCBS Ammomaster-Auto. It's very durable - hasn't shown any signs of wear or rusting after about 10,000 rounds.Setup of the sizer & flaring dies is simple, almost trivial.Setup of the seater-crimper is not difficult if one follows the procedure stated clearly in the instructions. Setting the taper and seating depth out of the specified order will lead to a tedious trial-and-error that will take a long time.I've used bullets of different weights and nose shape, and it's easy to reset the seating depth accordingly, without having to reset the crimp.

I have loaded lots of rifle ammo. But, I've steered clear of straight walled semi-automatics. I was worried that it was too complicated. So, I am a 45 Auto novice. These dies are great! I was very straight forward and un-complicated. The sizing die was no different except the positioning to protect the carbide insert which works Awesome! The case mouth belling die is easy to set up. And the seating and taper-crimp die work great. I only wish RCBS would improve their locking rings. I've been told to order the locking rings from hornady and use those. Over-all though I really like these dies! The directions are straight forward and they do exactly what they say they will.

I bought these because you can't get Hornady's. That said, these are quality dies that work very well, the sizer is smoother to use than any of my other dies. However, I still would've preferred Hornady's due to the wrench flats, lock rings, and bullet seater.

I have used a set of RCBS dies like this for the past 7 years. In that time I have loaded in excess of 30,000 rounds of .45 ACP ammo. The dies work just as great now as they did when I bought them back in 1997. I do set up the seater/crimper die to seat the bullet only. I use a Lee taper crimp die to apply the crimp. I use RCBS carbide dies for other calibers along with the Lee taper crimp dies and am very satisfied.
