The BPI Roll Crimper is perfect for the shotshell reloader who would like to apply a roll crimp to their shotshells. Roll crimped shells will provide improved performance for almost every load type. The use of roll crimps allows room for large payloads and may be used on new hulls for an extra clean look. The roll crimping procedure is easy: First, place an overshot card on top of the pellet charge. Next, place the Roll Crimper (in an electric drill) on top of the hull. Start the drill (make sure it is turning clock-wise) and apply light pressure. In a few seconds, a perfectly formed roll crimp will be present.

Really handy little bit! ...

Really handy little bit! We use it on a small drill press set to the lowest setting (570 RPM). BPI recommends that you form counter clockwise, but this is not necessary (especially if your drill press doesn't reverse!), works great at normal (lowest) speed and direction of press. We hold it at the mouth of the spinning bit with the chuck locked for a few seconds to warm the hull, then gently push the hull with light two handed finger pressure into the bit-- PERFECT roll crimps first time, every time. We use with a clear overcard (available here at MDWUSA) for .375 size 95 gr balls for "Judge" loads, or crimp it right to the ogive with cast lead bullets (218 grain to approximate a half ounce) to make a .410 bore "slug." BPI will email you recipes, their support is great (we can't give them here). Agree with previous reviewer that this is WAY easier than 12 crimps, where we prefer a MEC star, because the .410 is so much easier to hold and keep square to the bit. Remember, not a lot of pressure is necessary if you hold it lightly for a few seconds to warm it up, and you only need the slowest speed (screw speed on your hand drill, low belt setting on your drill press).

Very easy to use tool - a ...

Very easy to use tool - a lot less tempermental than a 12 gauge roll crimper. Have used with several different cast slug and 00 loads. Provides very nice crimp using only power hand drill. No learning curve - even the first ones were keepers!
