I bought this set to use for reloading my old 1888 Commission Mauser that takes .318 bullets. Since this set is made to size the neck for .323 bullets, I modified the mandrel. I did this by wrapping a couple narrow strips of duct tape around the top of the mandrel after I removed it from the die, to protect the flange. I then chucked it up in my drill press on the lowest setting and ran fine grit sand paper on the mandrel until it was the desired diameter (in my case, .319 since I use .321 cast bullets). Works great, and cost nothing to do!

This die set will also work for the 8x57 Ackley Improved 40 degree shoulder. Excellent way to save money when doing a wildcat, hope this helps someone. Terrific product.

These dies work, seem pretty durable and are inexpensive. I've been able to achieve consistent accuracy improvements in several rifles, compared to factory ammo. Not having to full-length resize is easier on the brass, press and operator. Do note that the resulting brass is fireformed to a particular chamber. You shouldn't count on using rounds reloaded with these dies in a different firearm. Lee sells spare parts direct. I've ordered a couple of mandrels to replace ones scored by the hard nickled necks in some 30/30 cases. You can also polish the mandrel to a couple of 10s (thousands) smaller. This increases neck tension and bullet pull.

If you are using 0.323 ...

If you are using 0.323 diameter bullets, these dies will work great straight out of the box. If, however, your gun is one of the older ones with the tighter bores that uses 0.218 or 0.221 bullets then these dies will not work for you out of the box you will need to order additional mandrels from Lee Precision directly.

Works great! Been using nothing but Lee products and they have always worked very well. Neck sizing only will extend the life of your brass as well as increase accuracy as the cases will be fire-formed to the chamber of your gun. Just make sure you initially full length size brand new brass.
