I've used this ammo for a long time. No problem in my 1895 functions just fine and hits hard. I been using Winchester Ammo prety much I been owning rifles from 30/30 to 300 WSM.

This product demonstrated decent accuracy at the range, which improved as the barrel got dirtier from more shooting in my Marlin Guide Gun (Marlins have larger barrel diameters than other 45/70s, so ammo acts differently in them then in other guns that is probably why the accuracy improved with the barrel getting dirtier). As to the accuracy itself, my tightest 3 shot group at 75 yards was a ragged hole, and my largest at that distance was about an inch and a half (I shot ordinary benchrest, so accuracy should be better with a more stable shooting platform the ammo is at the very least capable of this accuracy though). At 100 yards my groups had a range from 1 and 1/3 inches to just under 2 inches. The average was about 1 inches at 100 yards.On dear, I took a shot at a 35 lasered yards, and had full penetration through about 2 feet of deer, crushing light bone (the shot went in 2 inches above and 3 inches back from the shoulder exiting out the last two ribs on the underside of the deer toward the belly). The wound channel was straight and showed no deviation, despite the ribs. The entrance wound was about the size of a quarter, and the exit wound about that size also to the hide. Underneath the hide the wound was about 2 inches in diameter. The bullet seemed to retain almost all its weight, as I only found a small fragment (about 3 grains in weight) of the copper from the mushroom/frontal portion of the hollow point stuck next to the exit ribcage. This deer (about a 142 lb breeding doe) didnt drop where she stood, but was very easy to track due to extreme blood loss (she traveled maybe 60 yards). From the way the bullet performed, I would even expect it to shatter a shoulder bone at 70 yards and penetrate into the vitals. I dont think that the bullet would exit a second shoulder bone at that length, but would expect the Partition Gold from the same brand to do that. Ive got late season Kansas doe season coming up, and will report on this bullets perform

This is a ideal general purpose round. Fired from my ported 18.5" Marlin Guide Gun it groups consistently and seems to be fairly clean. Recoil is mild compared to heavier loadings, I'd consider this a lighter load. I've used it on groundhogs and whitetail with great results and great expansion. I wouldn't use it for anything bigger then whitetail however.

This is a great deer round. I was hunting an over-grown creek bottom and had a buck sneaking through the brush at about 20 yards. One shot from my T/C Encore .45/70 Govt using these Winchester Super-X 300 grain Jacketed Hollow Points and it was all over for that buck. The shot was broadside with the bullet hitting the far shoulder on exit; the buck stumbled about 5 yards and that was it. Upon further examination the entry and exit holes were nearly identical in size and the bullet did not appear to fragment at all. Meat damage was also surprisingly minimal - I usually see more bruising on deer that I have shot with my .30-06 using 168 grain ballistic tip bullets. I am very happy with the accuracy and performance of this round and will continue to use it until I eventually start reloading for my .45/70 Govt.

I used this ammunition from my H&R single shot .45/70 and got decent accuracy from it. I have killed one deer with it and based on what I saw, I plan to use this ammunition again. I shot a doe tight behind the shoulder and the entrance hole was quarter sized and I got a 50 cent piece sized exit hole. It dropped the deer right there.

I own three 45/70's(2 rifles and 1 pistol). This is the most consistent round I have ever used. Its controllable in the rifles and will take just about anything in N. America. It the 10" contender its a handful but drops whitetail and hogs where they stand.

Accurate round that lives ...

Accurate round that lives up to the Winchester name. Very good for deer and other light skinned animals. I use it in my Marlin 1895 Guide Gun with an 18 inch barrel. Recoil is managable, with an impressive report. No problems so far. Bullet itself expands reliably, and penetrates consistantly. Do not recommend for heavy game as the bullet doesn't penetrate to needed depths if it encounters denser muscle tissue and bone than that of a deer. Great overall deer hunting round!

As to the other people who have used this ammo I also find it truly devastating. I harvested a deer last year at about 40 yards and all I found was a small chunk of lead in the deer. I won't be switching ammo anytime soon. Great product.
