Good part: this base is ...

Good part: this base is heavy machined steel, and allows QD rings to be taken off and put back on. Bad part: when installed, the base projected back too far, preventing the action of the new NEF "Heritage" muzzleloader from closing. I solved the problem by grinding ~ 70 thousands inch off the base's end with a dremel tool. After a half hour of grinding and fitting, the action closed. The base also interfered with the plastic primer holder until I ground ~ 1/10th inch from the bottom right rear corner of the mount which was quicker. For both, I used a Dremel aluminum oxide grinding stone at 18,000 to 22,000 rpm. You really want safety glasses for this. Whether the base was too long etc or the 3 screw holes in the barrel were too far back, is not clear. Because NEF guns do not have a reputation for quality control, it could easily be the hole locations in the barrel. This mount with Warne QD medium rings is heavy: 10 ounces. I would buy this product again, and plan on the same solution.
