Fits perfectly on my 742! ...

Fits perfectly on my 742! I was having trouble with getting this gun sighted in as any other scope mount and rings were mounting the scope too high for my comfort. I wasted box after box of ammo trying. It took me 10 miniutes to mount my scope and 4 rounds at 50 yards and 4 more at 100 yards. Very Happy and would recommend this product to anyone with a 742.

Requires grinding of torx ...

Requires grinding of torx screws on a 740 to shorten so that the bolt is not 'SCREWED IN PLACE'. Shortening by grinding and beveling is not difficult but must be done. Otherwise, fit and finish are perfect and installation is a snap, torx screws are superb and are easiest to install if you purchase the Leupold Torx screwdriver to get good torque on the screw.

This base has breathed ...

This base has breathed new life into my old Remington 742. I had previously used cheap, aluminum "see through" mounts that left the scope quite high off the rifle. I hated this rifle for over 20 years. With this base and medium height rings the scope is now much closer to the barrel, the rifle points better and just plain LOOKS good. This is a very solid steel mount whose holes were perfectly aligned with my receiver. The TORX screws are very nice also, much better than hex or slotted screws. Leupold includes a torx wrench with each base and each set of rings, too, so you'll always have a spare. Very well made, nicely machined, nicely finished.
